  1. I have a dalmatian and he ate a bird two days ago, i called the vet for advice and he wanted me to bring him in because birds carry salmonela and this can be dangerous. My dog was sick though and off his food so otherwise i probably wouldnt have worried. He is better now after some antibiotics. I think you should phone the vet and they will advise you what to do. Hope he is ok x*x

  2. Labs are a gun dogs. Chasing birds is a natural instinct for them. The big question is was the bird dead or did he catch it. Birds do carry diseases and things of that order. Just keep a close eye on him.

  3. Birds carry diseases. I would take your dog to the vet or at least call them and see what they think.

Was it already dead? If not, how did it get the bird? I am assuming someone was watching this since you KNOW your dog ate a bird so why did no one stop it?

  4. lol I would worry for the bird!  But seriously, no, he should be fine.  Labs are bred to be bird dogs, so it makes sense for him to go after a bird.

  5. Depends on whether the bird was on the floor - in which case it might have been ill - and so get the vet to check your dog's health.....

but if it was ordinary, flying around, landed and your dog got it .... then it won't be a problem because the bird itself was healthy..... dogs and cats digestive systems can handle foods that might be a problem to use humans, but not to animals.... keep an eye on your dog for a couple of days, if it's eating, sleeping and pooing ok, wants to be their normal self.... then there's nothing to worry about....

    :)

  6. have you called you vet... Not to say anything is wrong but mabe they can give you some insight.. Does your dog currently take preventative heartworm pills? Or any other med's that prevent diasese's?

  7. Birds cant get rabies but they can get other desieseis but cats eat birds all the time so your dog could be ok but if the dog starts acting weird or doing something that isnt normal for a dog to be doing then you should call in to a vet or an other animal help center.

  8. If it is a wild bird, then you should have him checked out by a vet, especially if he becomes symptomatic. Wild birds, such as sparrows and pigeons, carry all sorts of diseases. If you dog has ingested a whole bird, he could have contracted some sort of disease.

There is also the possibility that the bird may have been sick. If it allowed itself to be caught by a dog, it may not have had the strength to fly away in time.

For peace of mind, have him checked by a vet.
