INJURIES CAN KILL A TEAM

Girardi has dealt with so many injures to his starting lineup and pitching rotation. With all those injuries the yankees should be out of contention. But Girardi whiped the bullpen into shape and cashman picked up Ponson from the dumpster list (free agency) and he has done good.

Considering the inconsistancy of his players and injuries should Girardi be a candidate for Coach of the year?

  1. If you're gonna say stuff like that, look at the Cards and Tony LaRussa. They've dealt with a lot more injuries than the Yankees and they've gotten a great result.

  2. no, even with injuries the yankees should be doing better

coach of the year is going to be Tony LaRussa or Joe Madden

  3. All managers are candidates, but Joe has big chances to win the MAnager of the Year.  He along with Ron Gardenhire and Joe Maddon are the top contenders.  He has worked with a lots of obstacles in the Yankees this year.  It would be great to have won the Manager of the Year in the NL and then in the AL. I imagine he wouldn't be the first one.

  4. Boo Hoo, the Yankees have had so many injuries let's give their manager the manager of the year award...

it's not happening. the manager of the mear award is not given for sympathy, nor do i have any for that matter. Matsui and Damon hurt? before you cry about those two remember that you're the Yankees and can just sign Xavier Nady, one of the hottest hitters in baseball, to fill in the injury hole. oh yeah, and bring in Marte while you're at it. Posada goes down? No big deal, you're the Yankees let's trade Farnesworth for Pudge (because that's a fair trade) who is better than Posada anyway.

Girardi for manager of the year...that's almost funny...why don't i just say Jerry Manuel should get it cuz i'm a Met fan.

  5. No actually, I think the only guy who should be considered is  Joe Maddon from the Rays. Look at what he has done with 1/3 of the payroll of the Yanks and Sox! The fact that his team is even still contending is amazing, and a shining example of what hard work and great managing can do!

  6. He's done as much as he can, but injuries are killing us.

  7. Since he's not a coach, he's a manager, the answer is no.

  8. Without a doubt. At one point he had two starting pitchers that did not have a win between them in 15 combined starts ( Kennedy and Hughes ) yet he still kept his team in it early. He lost his ace pitcher

( Wang ) for two months and his team is still hanging tough. Do I need to mention that Joba will miss 3 starts?

I'm not sure as to how many other teams that could substain this number of key pitching injuries and still be in the race for the wildcard or division at this point.

  9. Coaching wise, he could be a contender. However he can thank A-Rod heavily for where they are. When A-Rod was out of line up, they struggled more so. Since his return, that is when they runed it up and started winning more so again.  The voters like to see challenged managers in tough situations, as you said with injuries taking place within the organization and so forth. Losing Posada and Matsui, who in the past have been quite offensive, was a set back. However A-Rod, Giambi, even cano recently have held the team together. Not to mention MUssina, and a more decent pitching staff. Pitching will key to the finish though for them. If Yankees make wild card, surely Giarardi will be thought about.

  10. You gotta be kidding. That's going to some team like the Cubbies or Brewers. Nobody gives a c**p about the Yankees anymore. They were the media darlings for a while and they do have a part ownership in ESPN or something, but those days are coming to a close.

  11. No

  12. Not even close.

  13. Joe Maddon deserves it more than anyone, look what he's done with the rays! they have never even had over 70 wins in a season, they are on pace for like 95 this year,if they make the postseason he is a no-doubter for the manager of the year

  14. I'd say it's between him and Jim Leyland... it's gotta go to somebody that's in third place with one of best teams in the league on paper

The Yankees haven't had the worst issues with injuries and consistency in their own city, let alone the league.

Joe Maddon clinched AL MotY about 2 months ago

  15. When you consider that Girardi has been without Wang since June, has lost Posada for the season, has possibly lost Matsui for the season, got nothing out of Phil Hughes because he wasn't healthy from the start, saw Damon have to make his first ever trip to the DL, had ARod out of the lineup early in the season, lost Bruney for an extended period, has Jeter putting up the worst offensive season of his career, and has now lost Joba for a couple weeks, and still the team is right there in the middle of the race, I'd say he's a strong candidate.

Of course, Scioscia and Maddon are pretty good candidates themselves.

  16. Yes, he should be considered. New York is much different from Florida  with the Steinnbrenners at the helm and with all the media, who will tear you down if you lose. Plus, in New York, it seems like the goal is to win the world series every year.

And yet, Girardi has handled it.

  17. I think in most years he would get serious consideration, but unless the Rays go 0-for the rest of the season Joe Maddon will win AL Manager of the year, though I think Ron Gardenhire deserves some consideration if the Twins win the AL Central..

  18. Yea you should definitely give Manager of the year to a manager who has his team in 3rd place when the team in first place in their own division has 1/4 the payroll. Give me a break every team has injuries its part of the game. The Red Sox were without David Ortiz for 2 months, lost Dice-K for a few weeks, and were without Mike Lowell for a while at the beginning of the season but are still in contention. Does that mean Francona should be considered too? No, because he is expected to win because he has a better team than most others.

If anyone other than Joe Madden wins AL Manager of the year I'll be shocked. To do what he has done in this division is crazy. Maybe Mike Sciosia with the Angels, cause he is just a great managers, but it should go to Madden.

  19. I'm a die hard Yankee fan, but I must give the coach of the year to the Tampa Bay manager! He has kept those young players charged up all year. GO YANKEES!

  20. This one is easy. Mike Scioscia. He has the Angels playing great and will walk into the playoffs easily
