There’s little doubt that King is an assured and talented central defender. There’s also little doubt that England may struggle in this area come the World Cup. However, the fact is, King is one of the most injury-prone players in the Premier League. A persistent knee injury has limited his appearances over the past few years, and he has only been able to make 14 appearances so far this season.

The Spurs defender must be fit for Fabio Capello to even consider taking him to South Africa this summer.
