Which site causes less bruising?

hi andra,  I have a blood clotting disorder and have been on Lovenox for 3 yrs. I was taught by the RN to give it in my abdomen and near my love handles. you have to alternate sides to avoid resticking in the same site.

I get an ice pack to numb the area first then i wipe it with the alcohol swab. let it dry for a few seconds and then give the shot. afterwards, apply the ice pack again. it seems to reduce the bruising and pain.

Lovenox should always be given in the abdomen- 2 inches from the belly button.  I've never heard of it given elsewhere!

Did they teach you to pull back before you give it?  If so, this could be the cause of your bruising (I've been this lots of times). There is no need to pull back on the syringe with this injection!  Some bruising is to be expected because it does thin the blood.
