Question:

Should MLB Teams Give 1 player from their team to the US Olympic Baseball Team?

MLB's stubborn position about not allowing major league players from the 25 man rosters to play on the Olympic baseball team is stupid. I think each team should be required to let at least 1 member from their 25 man roster to play. The olympics are suppose to be the best of the best & the major league is supposed to be the best. It is dumb that they wouldn't let the best players play & represent our great country.

  1. Baseball shouldn't even be an Olympic sport.  It's gettin' ridiculous

  2. it's a fair idea but baseball really isnt that big of an olympic sport, it wont be an olympic game in the 2012 olympics, and it will probably not be in the 2016 olympics(they are gonna vote on whether or not it should be).

Plus they have the World Baseball Classic, which is before the major league season so players from all teams can be on it if they choose/allowed to be.

  3. Truly I long for the days when Olympics were amateur competitors at their best.  Even if you want top make the case that "other countries are using pros" I don't care.  If your opponent cheats, that doesn't excuse you from doing so.

I don't like the idea of sending athletes from the pro roster to the Games.  Send Minor leaguers or college players.  I think that basketball would be interesting if we sent one elite college team intact to play.

  4. no cause it would mess up our MLB season. and we would have a lot of players failing the olympic steroid testing. u can get by the mlb testing but not the olympic unless u with balco and they arent around anymore lol.

  5. Well, baseball is in danger of no longer being an Olympic sport. Baseball and softball are slated not to be on the Olympic program for the 2012 games in London. But the U.S. and a few other countries are petitioning to keep both on.

I kinda like the idea, but a lot of teams are not gonna want to give up their biggest stars in the middle of the season, especially if their team is in contention for a playoff spot. And if other countries ask for the same consideration (Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Japan), that could really deplete a team's roster. The Yankees could reasonably lose guys like A-Rod, Hideki Matsui, and Robinson Cano if the U.S., Japan and the D.R. wanted players for the Olympics.

  6. I like that idea. Like a bench player or something like that?

  7. no would make problems...that would mean that the yankees and red sox would lose a majority of their team compared to the blue jays who could then win the the al east...not fair to fans of the mlb...would kill every fourth season of mlb
