Should MLB make a law restricting the Pirates ability to trade for "Prospects"?

It's obvious the Pirates lowsy ownership can't be trusted with Prospects. The second they show some major league potential, these prospects themselves will be trade for more so-called 'prospects.' They should just officially join the minor leagues, as we know once these players reach major league ability they'll move on to major league clubs.

  1. Welcome to the world of Billy Beane. Try being an A's fan for a couple years.

  2. The A's do the same thing so i know what you mean. All you can do is sit back and continue to support your team like I do.

  3. No, because then other teams would have to have their ability to trade for prospects limited.

  4. The Pirates  are the development team for hot young prospects for the Big salary teams in the league. Once a young prospect matures and comes into his own they deal the prospect off to the big clubs just to get more young picks to continue the cycle once again. The Pirates ownership appears not to be in it to win it but to keep players circulating off the team like a farm team would do for its parent organization. They do this so it has the outside appearance that they want to win and keep the fans coming to the games to make their money. Once a player matures and his playing demands he get more than the league minimum they begin to shop the player to the contending teams. Unfortunately a few teams that can't compete do this just to keep themselves from going under. I hope this helps explain the "real truth" on why the Pirates organization does what it does!!

  5. they can do whatever they want

  6. It's their team they can do whatver they want.  It seems to work for the Marlins and other small market teams, why can't it work for the Pirates.

  7. Several other franchises have been very successful in this same approach (Twins, A's, Marlins, Rays, Brewers, Rockies) so I think that the league will let them manage their franchise as they see fit.  Would you rather that they hold on to Bay...get more draft picks after next season and suck even worse or trade for AAA talent that may be the stars that give you that two year run.

  8. Dude we get your point.  Just accept the fact and live on and enjoy baseball in the Burgh.

There are other places that do not even have baseball.
