  1. yeah but too bad its right in the middle of the season.

all we have is a bunch of minor league and college players representing us.

  2. No baseball or softball for 2012 but the MLB players union and contract will not allow for a work stopage for 2 weeks while they go off and play baseball in the Olympics. Half of the teams would lose 2-3 guys to different countries teams so it isn't worth losing millions in revenue during a stopage.

Basketball is okay since it is during the off season.

  3. that wouldn't happen due to the season occurring during the Olympics. Also it would just make other countries teams stronger because a lot of the star players in MLB would play for there home countries, such as albert pujols, manny ramirez, ichiro suzuki, and so on

  4. You mean softBALL. And no, they won't step into the Olympics...if they CAN. MLB is in the middle of a penant race, they aren't going to put that on the line for the Olympics.

  5. too late.

the sport will no longer be included next time.

  6. Well, they can mull over it for the next eight years; that's when baseball can possibly be reinstated, I think.

  7. Baseball is going away from the Olympics for one single reason, the USA is not the best and they pushed IOC to take it away. If we go back to amateur in basketball, that's what will happen, they will take it away because the US says so. It's just that the US doesn't like to lose. Everyone else can lose but they can't.  That's part of what makes them the most powerful country in the world.

The MLB has the World Baseball Classic and there they don't win either so I'm not sure doing something in the Olympics will make a difference.

  8. We'll keep in mind that if the MLB joins the Olympics, that doesnt automatically mean the USA team will own.  Remember that other players: Miguel Tejada, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols..they will be USA's oppositions.

I prefer to watch MLB untampered to be honest.

  9. Well, I think they should. It is not like Olympics is playing every year. I feel it is a great honour for the country, not about money even that is all we are concerning now.

There are always excuses for not playing for those non-profit games but Americans always said that MLB is the best in the baseball world and how do you prove it? If you have baseball classic, you should have a dream baseball team to join the Olympics. Olympics games are the highest honour in the sports and baseball is one of the most popular sports in the world. The best should go to Olympics even it means a sacrifice of couple weeks of regular seasons.

I for one would even shorten the season to see MLB players in Olympics game.  Yes, even all the MLB players are in Olympics, USA might still not win the gold but I believe USA will have the best chance to win. Plus, the managers get to pick the team. The dream team will look much than the all star team.

  10. If and when MLB players play in the Olympics, it will just reinforce my claim that Americans are tired of losing a game which they may have invented but no longer dominate at the amateur level. Don't ya already have the World Baseball Classic?

  11. No, not if it means shutting down the season for 2 weeks like the NHL does each time there's a Winter Olympics.
