Question:

Should Massa have put it in the wall?

When Massa realised his car was done should he have deliberately hit the wall with it and left it in a dangerous position that could not be retrieved as well as leaving a lot of debris on the track. And thus have forced a red flag, to try to keep the win?

  1. Heck NO!  That is not what a real racer would do, and besides he might get injured or cause injury to another driver.  In my experience as crewchief of our own open cockpit, open wheel race team, you always are to be a good sportsperson, otherwise do not show up.  This is especially true when racing an open wheel car.  You dare not touch wheels as there would be a good chance of one of you going skyward as one wheel would climb on the other.  In the case of Formula 1, both the team and driver would probably be fined and given a penalty for the next race.

  2. At Monaco he might have been able to do it, but the run-off areas at the Hungaroring are too large...it would have been hard to do on the straight anyway, and Massa said he had no warning it was going to blow, which rules out him trying that in the previous corner.

Even in the case of a large accident they would have brought out the safety car and finished the race behind it, so it wouldn't have gained him anything, except maybe a qualifying penalty at the next race, or even a ban.

EDIT in response to your added details. Yes, they WOULD have put out the safety car first, because that is what is says in the rules. The only way to get the race stopped is for the track to be completely blocked, or for there to be a danger to life, or for conditions to be impossible to drive in. Seeing as I doubt Massa would have hit the wall hard enough to hurt himself, it's also unlikely that he could have created enough significant debris to actually block the whole track - notice that they didn't stop the German GP the other week, and Glock was going twice Massa's speed when he went into the pit wall.

  3. That would never have worked.  As has been pointed one the race would have finished behind the safety car.

In my opinion the better plan would have been for a certain driver who wants to drive for Ferrari in the next year or so to voluntarily take Hamilton out!

Heikki is no threat to anyone.  Hamilton was the big winner today from Massa's blowup.

  4. you cannot be serious - these guys dont have an evil underlying thought process like u - which is 'win at any cost'.  if that were the case he could target taking hami out in each race to make kimi's job easier.  the only funny thing i found in this thread that multiple people believe that only M Schumi can get close to doing such a thing...

  5. Who do you think he is? Schumaker?

  6. If he did, Ferrari would have put a straight jacket on him in about 7.8 seconds!

  7. No!    I felt so bad for him.  His start was truly amazing and had me standing in the livingroom screaming GO MASSA!!!!! I returned home later to find through tevo that he blew. DANG IT!!!!!!!!  Thats rare for a Ferrari.....

  8. don't know.

  9. No.

  10. Schmacher might have done!! Remember qualifying in Monaco when he parked it?!?

I doubt that any of the drivers would sink so low. They're racers, not cheats

  11. You can not be serious, the race stewards would of noticed him doing this and erazed his points tally, Ferrari would question him about wrecking a car, he might injure himself, modern F1 wouldn't let such a ridiculous stunt stand.

  12. No
