Question:

Should Melbourne be allowed to stay in the AFL?

Let's face it - Friday night's game was an embarrassment. It's dragging the standard down by allowing teams such as Melbourne to participate.

Maybe they should combine Richmond & Melbourne - but I don't think they raise a competetive team from both their current squads.

  1. Yea i highly doubt they will merge. and melbourne was playing better footy up until friday night.

  2. I dont know to be honest - they are a struggling club both on and off the field, financially and through the way in which they play.

I recon that if they played well on the field they would get more members solving financial problems - its just a matter of improving their game.

  3. Good idea.

Wouldn't it be great to get rid of Melbourne & Richmond at the same time?

  4. GET OVER IT.

they are having a few bad years and everyone thinks they are no good they have been around for longer then every club and r doing not too well at the moment

give then2-3 years and thye be in a the premiership race again

  5. yes, they should stay in the comp. why would u get rid of a couple of teams just cos they're going badly. should we get rid of freo and west coast for going badly. every team and i mean every team, will have its down years. but what happens, they improve the players they've got, the get new players and its all a massive circle. interstate or victorian, every team will be at the bottom sooner or later, its just how it is.

  6. No every team has had a rough patch. That is unfair to get rid of a team. They will be good. Its like Carlton and Geelong. They had **** all players, they got players from the list and now are soaring high on the ladder.

You sould think about your questions before adding them on here.

  7. I personallyn think they should merge now. because, for them to succeed, they will have to do so at some time. It is either merge or fold.

  8. yes and people like you who talk about closures or mergers of any victorian clubs should be burn't at the stake...collingwood and the proudest.

  9. So if the Eagles get beaten by the same amount in Rnd 22, they should merge with the Dockers then eh?

  10. I think that we need to give Melbourne a chance. If every team that was having a bad year was kicked out of the competition, then there would be almost no teams left. I'm sure that when Geelong beat your team by 135 points, and Collingwood beat them by 100 points in a matter of weeks,  that you didn't want your team kicked out?

Every team has their bad patches, and I think Melbourne just need time. In a few years they will be playing better.

  11. Yes, they are one of the elite and oldest clubs in the AFL

  12. hey mate i think they played horrible but sumtime u just dnt have any answers n remember they were playing the cats.. they'll be back idk wen but theyll b competitive again, rrichmond wont merge because there not playing bad footy nor are they going broke

  13. idk

  14. Pot calling the kettle black i think MULGA42, mate,  you're going along nicely today mate,  richmond/melbourne  merge, nah mate, maybe eagles/crows, you could come over and win the odd game in the VFL.

Come on mate, lets all be nice hey? It makes the world go round, i know you're happy with your eagles performance on the weekend, they must of played well but a week is a long time in footy mate, 3 weeks to go.

  15. Get rid of Jim Stynes and they can stay. keep him and it will be the kiss of death for Melbourne.

  16. Everyone should merge to face Geelong; It's the only way anyone will get close to the p***y Cats!

LOL Alex C comparing Carlton to Geelong, that's the funniest thing I've heard all year. Last time I checked Carlton were soaring high in 10th position lol

  17. I would rather spend ten years languishing at the bottom of the ladder than merge with anybody.... and the ONLY re-location I could even contemplate would be to tasmania as  poor old tassie deserves to have a team and the AFL powers that be seem set to deny them.

Forget the current form ... Melbourne is still one of the most successful clubs in the league.... and they did it WITHOUT assistance from the AFL/VFL .. like payment subsidies , draft picks... etc LIKE SOME OF THE NEW COMERS HAVE DONE...

Melbourne is also the FOUNDING team ... and just for the history and tradition SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO FOLD.

And while I am a Melbourne supporter .. and you may feel I am being biased .. I actually feel the same way for other Victorian based AFL teams......

Bad years make the Good years better.

  18. Wasn't Melbourne in the grand final in 2000 or something???

  19. Maybe West Coast and Freo should merge and then they might win more than 4 games a year.

  20. they might do better next time, give them a chance.

  21. Yes and Richmond should stay as well. It has only been eight year since their last grand final appearance. They have some great young talent like Colin sylvia, Matthew Bate, Simon Buckley, Austin Wonaeamirri and Shane Valenti. As for Richmond i'm surprised there not top of the ladder, they have very experienced players like Nathan Brown, Matthew Richardson, Kane Johnson, Joel Bowdon, Brett Deledio, Nathan Foely, Chris NewmaN, Troy Simmonds, Kane Pettifer and Shane Tuck and they have very good young talent like Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt, Dean Polo. They have loads of talent but there not using it.
