Should Michael Phelps give basketball a crack for the London Olympics?

He's got the height. He's got the athletisism. He's got the durability. He's got the determination.

If he helps the team to win gold, then, with no doubt he will be (by far) the greatest Olympian of all time.

  1. lol :)

Olympic champions generally have the bodies almost perfectly suited for their respective sports.  Phelps has the big upper body, relatively shorter legs, and big feet well adapted for swimming.  But yes, who knows maybe he'll add the 100m dash and ping pong to his repertoire for next Olympics.  ;)

  2. The durability? That might come in handy if he was the actual basketball. I think you mean endurance, but have you ever played basketball? The two skill sets for those sports are completely different.

  3. Actually I would love to see him play basketball..but I dont think it really suits him haha

  4. I love him as a swimmer but if he changed sports I think he'd be good as a marathon runner or maybe even a sprinter (his height would be a disadvantage in that one though).

  5. Wow, thanks for wasting our time. I shall ask Dwyane Wade if he wants to enter the Shooting contest, he's a great shot in basketball.

  6. Yes, and we'll throw LeBron James in the water to replace him.

  7. Watch Michael Phelps videos at Beijing 2008 Olympic swimming finals below

  8. yao ming should play volleyball for china also

  9. Well he might be the only thing hes good is swimming and i think he will stick with that because he just made history with his 8 gold medals.

  10. No. he does not have the athleticism, not even close. First off dudes even for track he's poorly built. What I find funny about swimming is the different styles for the same distances. Are you going to make track sprinters run the 100m backwards or sideways? no u just want them to run ask fast as possible. it's a little ridiculous that swimmers can rack up medals for basically doing things backwards. Maybe high jumpers should have a division for different techniques like the scissors. jeez pathetic.

  11. It's his decision.

No matter how many people say "yes" or "no" here, it's not going to make a difference in what events he competes in, But, in all honesty, WHY would someone who trains in swimming decide to play on a basketball team?!

It doesn't make a lot of sense...
