It's for my debate and I'm on the affirmative side. The Proposition is: Resolve that Mindanao should be an Independent State. Thanks in advance.:]

  1. not all of Mindanao wanted to be an Independent state... I think on the predominantly Muslim areas only...

  2. why should we allow them to have their own indepence? we belong to one country and the issues that they have could never be resolved by giving them autonomy but in providing the basic needs of every Mindanaoenu. these are jobs, land, education, wages, and the right to be recognized as Moros and with their religion.

  3. No, definitely not.

  4. Its like releasing smoke from a can.  By the time you learn that it really stinks, You can't get it back into the can and you don't know where it will spread.  Send those malcontents to some remote island over near Guam and let them develop it from scratch.  Why give up something like your defeated?  If your willing to give up your country so easily, soon you will be the outsider and kicked out. Do you think they will stop at just Mindanao?  If those people cannot live in harmony with others, THEY need to find another place to go, not everybody else.

  5. This is part of your research study.  Have you ever researched anything that pertains to statehood?  Perhaps not.

To make a point,  being an independent state will not justifiy conditions of governing itself let alone the circumstances that Mindanao the then and now they experienced.  Can they afford to be independent?  NO.

This is all political in nature. It is sad to say that the only solution is not to separate Mindanao. Being the muslim nation (i don't mean nation as in country-ok) regarded as one that defies communality with the rest of the christian masses.

This is very common to any factions or groups that think they are deprive of something. When one encounters such deprivations, rebelliousness or "emote"(ness)" is their only 'denouement.'

Let us come together and be one state among all states-christians and non-christians alike.

    Good luck.

  6. wow. your backs are against the wall if you're on the affirmative side.

think how you'll rebutt these negative points:

    - who will lead this independent Mindanao?

    - what army will fight the insurgents if Mindanao is independent?

    - how does this independent Mindano go about economically?

    - will the Philippines' regional counterparts in APEC & ASEAN acknowledge Mindanao as a trading partner?

  7. The continuing struggle by the Philippine government to control Min. will produce only more bloodshed.  If the fighting ends, the feeling of oppression on the part of the oppressed will not end --- the war will never be truly ended.

The argument to continue efforts to keep Min. a territory of the R.P. is to say that it is more important to keep the territory than to spare lives and to bring a peace through agreement.  It is to say that the gov. of the Philippines is willing to put aside their Christian (CHRISTIAN!) ethics in order to achieve a geopolitical agenda.

Your argument: In order for the Christian government of the Philippines to be more Christian, the government must avoid and denounce tactics that involve killing (which Christians have been enjoined to do by the Commandment as given in their Scripture!).  The continuing violence --killing-- is in direct contradiction of their Christian ethics.  Either denounce the Christian ethics or denounce violence.  It cannot be both.

  8. No wee.

  9. I beg to disagree. Mindanao is  rich in resources that are too valuable to the Philippine islands as a whole.

  10. I am on the affirmative side. Take it from me. I come from Zamboanga City - a place where everyone believes is a predominant Muslim territory. We are currently dealing with a huge problem now. 3/4 of the population (included Muslims) here are ready to fight just to keep the city from being an Independent State. As someone said, the Mindanao is rich in resources that can be very useful in the country as a whole. And do you think that these religion wars will end if the BJE will be granted? No. Even if Mindanao is already an Independent State, it still lays just below Luzon and Visayas. We cannot guarantee the safety of the two major islands from any incidents that can happen in Mindanao. Another very negative effect of this is that key cities in the Philippines will be more populated, as many people from the different cities in Mindanao will definitely transfer in places like Manila, Cebu, and Iloilo.

I don't see any point why Pres. Arroyo will agree with this. Mindanao has never hesitated to be under the corrupt government of the Philippines. We participated in every activities run by the government. Unless she wants to take her revenge for losing in Mindanao against FPJ. Does that tell us something?

  11. Independence, no.

    Have some Autonomy, yes.

  12. No way! A federal state, maybe. But we have to have a Charter change first (after 2010, of course!).

  13. No Way!..I'm from Cagayan de Oro..and most people here are Catholics..

    What happened to PEACE?..

  14. affirmative side ---

    1. they have own religion

    2. they have own laws

    3. they have won culture

    4. they have support from other countries

    5. they want to be autonomous
