Should NASCAR have one race that is longer?

People always ponder on a shorter race. I like the longer races. Do you think it would be cool to have just one race that is a little longer, so we could see more stress put on the race cars componentry. Not only effecting the machine, but the man too.

  1. I believe we already have a couple races like that with Pocono, Charlotte, Atlanta and Cali.  The problem is the engines are built so darn tough anymore that extended races aren't an issue anymore.    I remember ten years ago when teams changed multiple engines throughout a weekend.     Too many fans and several drivers have been wussified lately anyway. They complain a race is too long and hot but when someone says NASCAR isn't a sport they are the first ones to go in defense.

I agree anyway.  I like long races.  I thought last nights race was awesome.  I hope tonight is just as good.

  2. I think they should cut it a bit...like 50 miles and not a whole 100 mi chunk.

Like the Pocono race...make it a 450 race.

  3. Uh, Coca-Cola 600??? lol

  4. In the 70's and 80's most races were 500 something, either laps, kilometers or miles, with the exception of one that being the World 600 (miles) at Charlotte.

The 90's brought in the changes of some races to be shorter distances but still run minimum 3 hours at those shorter lengths.

  5. how about a 1,000 mile race and the drivers switch 2 times at 500 miles but keep the same car.  the drivers switch so they do not fry but then you can see how the car holds up to the stress of a 1,000 mile race with out totally killing the drivers.

  6. yes   but you know what would make races a little longer. stop counting the caution laps.  actually that would also make the races better in the long run. and people wouldnt feel cheated like they were if they went to the brickyard this year.  and yes  it would be nice if they all be 500 and make one the 600 at the end of the year.

  7. Ther is plenty of stress already, on man and machine, why look for more chances of doing harm, sit back and enjoy, and pray there are no serious mishaps, #88 fan

  8. I do like long races.  But 3 or 4 hours in a car that is very hot  I am sure the drivers don;t.

  9. About the longest I can take is the Coca Cola 600. And there are some others at 500 miles with sustained RPM's that give the engine builders ulcers. (Atlanta comes to mind) . Plus, any longer than 5 or 6 hours in the car and the driver fatigue could get down right dangerous.

Edit: I really like the avatar, Maggie.

  10. B R I S T O L

Stress on the cars and drivers.

600 or 700 miles would be awesome.

  11. They do. It is the Coca-Cola 600 At Lowe's Motor Speedway

  12. What do you want the Coke 700? The 600 is all the longer they need. They need to shorten both Pocono races. And all of the California and Michigan races. They are far too long, and far too boring.

  13. There are many times I would like to have the race last longer.  Last weekend was one of them...lol

Well not just that I see what you mean pushing man and machine to it's limit and see who would really be the best man/car/team.!!!                I am all for it...at least once!!!
