Should we ease up on allowing non green card holders to be able to gain entry into the military?

This process can take in excess of 10 years for some cases..And all this time the individual is waiting there while wanting to serve...

Why cant they serve while awaiting their green cards?

And is there a way to expedite this process for those who wish to serve?

I am not saying to open the flood gates and to allow all to serve. Many of these folks are ready and willing and the only thing keeping them from defending the country they now love is tons of paperwork..

Allowing these folks to serve would lift the load for many serving today?

  1. I think they should after going through a security check.

  2. I think we should allow them to serve. Just put them at the front of the list to get green cards.

  3. im in this situation, but my GC expired, and cant go to basic till i get my citizenship. so yea this is a bogus law.

  4. No, the rules should not be changed or relaxed. There are several reasons why it is not wise to allow a foreign national to serve in the military. If they don't have green cards there are even more reasons.

To begin, illegal aliens are not legally able to hold a job in the U.S. Allowing them to work directly for the government would simply give the impression that everyone should be able to employ whomever they desire, regardless of what the laws say.

More importantly, military people often become aware of sensitive information. It is vital that people that have not taken the steps to show they are fully trustworthy not be given access to information that can be used to cause harm to their comrades.
