Yahoo has been going through a lot of changes lately (new Home Page, new Mail, etc.) but has never taken their sites completely offline. Yet, this is the excuse that Niel Budde signed his name to for taking down the boards.

Yahoo message boards had an incredible amount of traffic that put advertising in front of an incredible amount of eyes. Ad revenue is the basis for any successful internet portal.

Hotbot was a thriving internet portal-once upon a time. They changed their formats and drove traffic away from their sites. That traffic never returned and Hotbot went the way of the dinosaurs.

Should Yahoo fire Niel Budde for his decision to take down the message boards?

  1. Absolutely!

  2. Yes, fire the weenie.

  3. yes I am a yahoo shareholder and i will ask this at the next meeting

  4. It's disgusting... I actually have to read the news articles since I cannot Troll the discussion boards. This is horrible. Neil Bundy needs to be azzraped on pay-per-view.

Everyone knows Al Gore invented new message boards and unfortunately my cousin died while reading the messages on one topic. He had a stroke when he saw some chick in the shower doing stinkies on herself!.

Neil Bundy should be shot in mouth in temple!

  5. yep

  6. If he is the one responsible for shutting down the message boards, then he is responsible for the greatest business blunder since "New Coke". The boards were the ONLY aspect of Yahoo that had ANY redeeming qualities, whatsoever. I hope after the stock plunges into the dumpster, someone with a functioning brain cell will be allowed to put Yahoo in the top ranked place it could be.

  7. Yes.

  8. Much like GW Bush, Neil Budde went into an endeavor with a grudge, poor information, a malaligned strategy but worse of all... no proper replacement (exit strategy.) Now I know that the "new" boards have not been revealed... nor has the nunchuck (sp. nunchaku) approach to dealing with hooligans but I can say for certain it will be a complete and utter failure (comparatively speaking.)

I always say that you reprimand a poor business decision and you fire a costly business decision maker... so yes sidewalk him... give him a pink slip for his new year's bonus.

  9. YES!!! And then take him out back and kick his stupid ***!

  10. Yahoo should at least have a talk with him.

Maybe if we coax Neil Budde he would answer THE question

WHEN IS THE DISCUSS PART OF MESSAGE BOARDS COMING BACK.

  11. I doubt he made the decision on his own. Yahoo executives most likely had to approve taking the boards down.

  12. Since the discussion groups were removed by Neil Budde, I never look at yahoo. I only use Google now. The discussion groups were very entertaining and I used yahoo for other services. Now yahoo is no longer even my home page.

    Great job Neil Budde.

  13. Not yet!

That all depends on how much money Yahoo makes off the banners that are connected to the old message boards, and how quickly they get these new boards online.

I'd say that at any given time there are thousands of people on Yahoo's homepage or they're checking their email. While there are only hundereds of people who used the News Discussion forum.

If Yahoo does lose a significant amount of money (and 1% is significant) off the removal of the boards they'll pressure Budde for the fix he's promising.

Personally, I don't think Yahoo made much money off these boards. One reason is many of the members used two or three accounts at one time when posting messages on the News forum.

That and I'll bet many people have written complaints to Yahoo over what's posted on the Discussion Boards. There have been trolls who have posted links to Marriage Registry sites that have a message board, and a couple times I've read pro-terrorist messages.

Maybe Budde is a hardcore member of the GOP and he couldn't deal with the new wave of Liberals who are rubbing the 2006 election in his face..
