Question:

Should New Zealand play more test cricket or just give it up altogether?

The Black Caps schedule has just come out for next summer and it includes just 2 two-test series. I love test cricket and think we could be competitive if we played more of it. What do you reckon?

  1. I think the decrease in the amount of tests teams play these days are a bit ridiculous. There is nothing like a good long test series, to really test a team, and heaven Knows New Zealand need a good test series. One can not get any better by not playing...So Im not reallly sure what the cricket board was thinking.

  2. New Zealand need to play a whole lot more test cricket. The recent display in England was a fine example why. New Zealand seem to play good for periods of the game but lack the ability to sustain any pressure. More tests would solve that problem and make them a decent side like they were not so long ago. How long till that bracewell is gone, I blame him for everything that is wrong with NZ cricket.

  3. It should play more Test Cricket

  4. play more

  5. More, more more!

Vettori is a fan of the longer game. I reckon they should make him captain-coach.

Our domestic scene is a worry though - it's just not competitive enough. I think we'd be better off having the provincial sides feed into a North Island Team and a South Island Team who compete with each other regularly (and if we can get a team from the 'West Island' into the fold that would be excellent!). These two teams should feed into the National Team. The two teams could even take on overseas tours against A sides if the budget allows. I think this will make our players more competitive.

County cricket is still the best training ground to learn how to play swing though and we suck at playing the swinging ball.

  6. new zealand just needs a bit of consistency in mainly the batting and if the top order batsmen are in good form im confident we can pull an upset over aussie later this year

  7. Scott Styris retired from Test cricket, in order to focus on ODIs - perhaps New Zealand are trying to go the same way.

New Zealand have got a good, young side coming through, they've got a good captain in Vettori. Had it not been for some awful batting and good bowling, New Zealand could've beaten England. NZ shouldn't give it up, perhaps the cricket board are hoping that playing more ODIs together might give the team some spirit?

  8. Give it up!

  9. play more tests
