  1. i think Ireland should be joined back together and then all of Ireland become apart of the UK , then everyone will win and everything will be cheaper for example posting at the mo to rep of ireland will cost you double to what it does to northern ireland.

  2. yes!!!

  3. Yeah!Catholics and Protostants can live together in peace as long as the brits are out!TIOCFAIDH AR LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. personally I think the way the country is divided at the moment works pretty well.why change a fairly good thing

  5. definetly

  6. Yes, eventually.

Katy, no one will be "forcing out" the Scotch-Irish whose ancestors colonized Northern Ireland.   They'll be free to stay, if they so choose to.

In a relatively short period of time, the Catholics of Northern Ireland will outnumber the Protestants and there will undoubtedly be a push to join the Republic of Ireland.    (Similar to what will eventually happen when the Palestinian population grows to outnumber Jews in Israel.)

There's no reason why this WON'T happen, and no reason why it shouldn't.    Ireland needs reunification.   Then, buh-bye to the Brits and their army.

  7. Yes.. Ireland should be together as one II think.

  8. By all means, yes. But it is a process that will take time, decades maybe, and most probably. In the old days the main thing concerning this issue was a religious strife between Catholics and Protestants and the nationalistic hatred of Irish towards English for occupying their island. That is still present as well, but it is not as strong as an economical side of the problem. Now when the people are very aware of themselves and enjoy a good life in that part of the world, the are concerned about keeping it the same. Thus , on the first place for them is that their economies do not suffer beucose of potential unification. Look at Scotland, they do wish to get their independece again , but are worried how would they compete as a small, not so resource rich country, on the global market. I wish that they all get the independence back, the British tradition so many English are proud of was mostly built on the backs of the people of these countries, exploited for centuries.

  9. Partition Northern Ireland, separating the Protestants and Papists. Integrate the Protestant part into the UK and let the Catholics part decide its own future and pay its own bills.

  10. Yes. Only then will both the UK and Ireland will be able to move forward.

  11. Without a doubt

  12. N O

  13. irland wont be one untill northan irland is given back by the british. souther irland want one country, northan irland is part of england/uk.

  14. YES!

The British are there illegally and have nurtured their poison long enough.

  15. The way the question is phrased leads to the lack of openess in the majority of the answers given thus far. There is an implication in the question that NI are somehow inferior to the Republic.

Perhaps the question should have read "Should Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland join"

You are then left with the question of how should they join (as a republic, as part of the UK, as an indepenent part of a federal EU.......).

As it stands, it is up to the people of Northern Ireland to answer this question. Anyone from anywhere else, including the Republic of Ireland and other parts of the UK, can give an opinion....but they won't have a say.

  16. I hope i am the only person here able to think above the level of a fourteen year old.I know i will get slated for this but here goes.

No, I live in the republic and i dont want northern ireland any more. I used to think yes give us back our land, but now i own a house have a job and dont want to sacrafice any of that for a piece of land that we are better off without. If any of you who can remember the reunification of germany and the economic consequences that had to germany.

Think what would happen to us if we had 1 million or so people over night. Taxes will go through the roof. the best revenge for the brittish is to let them keep paying for northern ireland for good by keeping it in Uk hands.

Put it this way it is costing th UK taxpayer a lot to keep northern ireland running,

Plus no body in the republic wants sinn fein to have any influence over government here. Its bad enough that there are shinner scum down here but having them become a large party due to reunification would destroy every thing we worked for. Sinn fein believe that the ownership of property is theft, gerry adams has stated this before. we are better off without them, its too late now. I also dissaprove of our government giving northern Ireland seven billion last year. Northern Ireland will probably become a state similar to Canada with a constitutional monarchy.

  17. No.  Ireland should join Northern Ireland and become a part of Great Brittan.

  18. It's actually a lot more complicated than it seems. For quite some time, I was all for Northern Ireland becoming part of the Irish Republic, feeling that it was land unfairly stolen from the Irish by the British long ago. But, you have to consider that the families of British descent have been there for many generations, too -- it's their home now, and is it really fair to force them out? They are their own country with their own attitudes and ideas, which are neither British nor Irish. But, they are currently part of the UK, so they aren't really an independent country. As far as politically joining Ireland, it would be a wise move for Northern Ireland. Ireland's economy is booming moreso than the UK's, and its standard of living is better, too.
