Should One permit Ones maid to move out of the stable and into the attic

Well, I for one, come from a fairly regal family, and in my own humble opinion one cannot be seen to be eating 'twixt his maid and his stable boy. As the old addage goes, "A servant in house makes a leech as well."  Or something like that. My old grandfather, Lord Whithertooth the third was often drunk when spouting "old addages."

Case and point my good fellow, have them stay in a specially prepared hole. Throw a tarp over it in the winter to prevent major freezing.

I have several maids, and they all sleep in the attic.  Of course they all f**t and in the morning one has to open all the windows.  But they do bring hot water to one, and they wash one, and shave one, and dress one ... all things which one cannot do for oneself.  So I think that if you are at all uneasy about your maid you should get her into the attic, and impose a strict regime ... how else is one going to manage one's personal hygiene, etc?  One is not accustomed to thinking for oneself.  That is what the lower orders are for.

Dear Mr. Joyce, It is a problem, one has so much trouble with ones staff these days, always complaining about something or other. As for moving the old bag out of the stables, one should get ones valet to do it immediately, it causes distress to fine bloodstock. As for the attic, that is a bit ott is it not? what is wrong with a barn or just throw her out and go for something young and Swedish.
