Should Phil Taylor throw in the towel? A difficult question with a simple answer!
Phil “The Power” Taylor, a few paragraphs cannot portray the man and his art at the game of darts. Countless wins, historic performances, inspiring technique, flawless precision, the list just simply does not end.
The talent that this man contains is legendary. Where ever there are darts, it is Taylor who is mentioned in golden words. His karma has dominated millions around the globe and without a doubt, he still remains the best in the world.
Taylor is a part of the darts universe since 1988 when he joined the BDO (British Darts Organization). Later on, he founded and became a member of the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation).
He is a thirteen time World Championship winner, a twelve time World Match play winner, a ten time World Grand Prix winner and an outstanding six time Premier League Champion.
He is a five time PDC Player of the Year and a five time PDC Fans’ Player of the Year. Moreover, he is a 2011 PDC Hall of famer, an honour only a few have witnessed.
Taylor is ranked number one in the World ranking and he is there to stay. He has been untouchable for decades now and his consistency has been awe-inspiring.
His humility as a person is indeed a sight. His disciples include the great Adrian Lewis who has been a former World number one himself.
A lot was being said about Taylor’s participation at the 2012 McCoy’s Premier League Darts. At the age of 51, it was thought that names like Lewis, Whitlock and Wade would dominate the League. Yet, that did not happen at all.
Taylor dominated the entire Premier League with killer performances and magical maneuvers that have inspired millions. He later on won the 2012 McCoy’s Premier League title with amazing fashion.
“The Power” took home an astonishing £150,000.
As they say, “Time and tide waits for none”, Taylor is getting old.
The man has given his entire life for darts and now nature is coming in the way. His performance, without a doubt, has been miraculous but in his own words, he is facing a physical breakdown.
“I felt shattered, I don't know what's the matter with me. It's horrible when you're getting older. I had a tough semi-final and I think the thing that got me through that was experience” said Taylor after his battle in the final against Whitlock.
He had a back injury in London while playing which has been a cause of distress and pain for the World number one.
This was visible in the Premier League final as well. He had trouble keeping up right and straight while play which seemed an issue. He stated that he could have pulled of nine-darters if he did not have a back ache due to which he could not perform as well
as he had planned.
“But I was really struggling to stand up straight. I'm going to go and see a physio or an osteopath and try and get it clicked in. I've got to put it right” said a worried darts magician.
This issue is definitely not stopping the World number one as he is looking forward to win the U.K Open and continue his streak as the best of the best.
Taylor has done wonders but nature hits a mortal pretty bad. His legacy marks invincibility. Whether he continues or calls it off, he is the World’s best darts player ever, period.
