  1. Yes so that all kids can start kindergarten on as level of a playing field as possible, so  that poor kids are not at a disadvantage.

  2. no it shouldn't because i never took preschool and im a A student

  3. You gotta be kidding me!  I have home schooled my children until high school.  One was a valedictorian, the other received a scholarship for his musical talents.  Two kids, two scholarships.  Give me a break.  It's all T & A Time and Attension

  4. No.  Why would I send my child to a preschool where I know she won't get the one on one help that she would get at home. I think I can do a better job teaching my daughter the pre-K info that she needs to learn. She is 3 and knows: how to write her name, her alphabet, to count from 1-12, colors, and shapes.

  5. preskool should be manditory becuz it helps them with kindergarten and i see so manny kids in kindergarton that dont no wut half the stuff is and they did not go to preschool and the ones that did go to preschool do very well

  6. I think the point of making preschool mandatory is almost a discussion of the past. In my area preschools are registered with the school district and offered to any child over the age of three for free. In turn the child is registered and ready for kindergarten within our school district. You can always spot the children who have not attended preschool from day one in a kindergarten classroom. They are the children who do not know how to behave in a classroom, raise their hand to speak, transition between activities, adjust poorly, have a hard time playing with the children, lack of attention, and do not know how to wait their turn. This is not saying that every child does not know these things and didn't go to preschool, but personally from running a preschool I know the kindergarten teachers well here and they can always tell when a child has come from my center. They are better prepared for school and give little hassle in adjusting to the school environment.

It's better for the children to get used to a schedule when they are younger and more open to it. Starting them at the age of 5 to learn to wake up early and go through a full day of school from day one can be over whelming and frustrating, plus those are the parents who are crying that their "babies" are leaving the nest and unprepared to let go. Preschool helps with all of that as well.

Now, to the question... should it be mandatory, no I do not feel it should be. In this state even kindergarten isn't mandatory. Would I recommend that parents take the opportunity to enroll their children into a preschool, yes. In the long run the child will start the school year prepared, on a good foot, and have more of a chance for a successful first year of school.

    Hope that helps!

  7. Yes ,because the kids that don't go 2 pre- school are usually behind in kindergarten and in pre school they teach you how 2 do the ABC's and your numbers and

That helps a lot i may not be the best 8th grader of my class but it helped me out a lot .why , cuz it helps.

  8. Being a parent that battled with a child during preschool and is now in K5 I have to say no. Every child is going to develop differently. My child hated preschool...I was even a sub teacher. I think they put way to much pressure on kids now on learning...The child will learn at his or her own pace. I finally learned that once I stopped pushing the child to learn that everything has been wonderful. We are now excelling at school, reading and loving every part of the learning process...Some kids will do great at preschool while others just need some additional time. They have the rest of their lives to attend school and learn. Why push so much at this age? Just enjoy your child and watch them grow and learn at their own pace...

  9. I think so because most children who don't attend day care are either under prepared, or under socialized.  Both make the first year of school difficult.  If your child is socialized they will be more prepared to pay attention to the teacher in class and also if they have already had experience in a class room situation it will make Kindergarten transition a lot easier on the child.

  10. NO! There is to much pressure to teach early reading skills at an earlier age. Kids this age need to play and explore the world. Parents can provide all the needed skills at home, along with socialization through play groups (reading time at libraries, MOPS, etc) And I think these kids are actually further ahead than 'day care' kids down the road in school.  many preschool teachers bore their little ones with 'pre-literacy' skills pushed by the government to get the kids 'ready' for Kindergarten. Head Start raised the standards of what the kids should know. I didn't teach some of this stuff to mid-year  Kindergarten a few years ago!!  Other developed countries don't have this much emphasis on early literacy/math as the US does, yet the kids turn out to be better readers? Why? Have we burnt out a love of learning for a little ones? I always have a couple kids complaining "I'm bored" "I don't want to do this" when I teach this games to promote literacy or high-end math. The kids want to play, and the complainers aren't ready for this type of activity. But... they will be going off to Kindergarten, and, we have a skills test they take in the fall and spring...... (a federal assessment test, required!) We can't even get the regular school years right, why subject our little ones to more of the mess in our educational system.  It's too much too early. These young kids should focus on learning to follow teacher directions, and to explore and create in their world. Imagination is going out the door along with the quest for knowledge.

  11. Yes it should be available to all children in America.  When discussing mandatory preschool it is usually to give kids who live in poverty stricken places the same opportunities that kids in the suburbs.  Children who have attended preschool start kindergarten knowing socially appropriate behavior, how to follow routines, the alphabet, shapes, numbers, etc...  There are more early readers going into kindergarten than ever.  Meanwhile children in the inner-city who didn't get that opportunity are still poor readers through out elementary school.

  12. pre-school should not be mandatory in the U.S. because in preschool there is nothing taught that is needed in kindergarden or future grades

  13. I feel that preschool should not be mandatory...

but contradicting what others have answered: children do learn valuable skills in preschool, even at the age of 2!!! They are learning socialization skills and language skills before a child that is at home.  But I also feel that it is valuable to have a child stay home with a parent. If the parent is able to give the child the home education he/she needs such as working on colors and numbers there will be no problem with the child entering kindergarten and being behind.  If the child is not getting the proper stimulation at home then they definitely need to be around people who will provide them with that, such as a preschool.

  14. No beacuse it is so easy to teach kids the same things at home and they teach the same things over again and you could help the child get ahead if they stay at home. plus you get to hold on to them a little longer.

  15. yes they'll be more prepared for k-1. They'll already have social skills

  16. It should be mandatory because the standards for kindergarten have changed in the last 10 years. They are expected to already know basics like ABC', colors, shapes, and are expected to already have basic reading skills. And for those who don't fall behind everyone else. It use to be that preschool was daycare(and there is a difference) but now most preschools have academic standards that they put upon the children. Remember preschool is only for 3 1/2 years to kindergarten age not younger, if a school says they are a preschool and will take a 2 year old they may not be teaching as oppose to watching.

  17. yes it should be mandatory as it teaches the child to share . Preschool teaches the child that he/she has to listen to elders not just parents . Preschool gets the child prepared for kindergarten as they teach simple alphabets numbers shapes  and common sense that might not be happening at home! and irish chick your a teacher? why cant you spell!!
