Should Raw Chicken have any Smell?

Question

I have noticed that sometimes raw chicken has a very slight odour, a little bit like a stale f**t - but not that strong. Does this mean the chicken is going off or is it normal? I'm vegetarian, but have to cook meat for my partner - which means I can't get to taste the stuff I cook for him.

 I buy my chicken straight from a farm, and it does NOT have a smell at all. I have never had chicken froma store that didn't smell when i opened it.
