Should Reggae Sumfest 2008 be forced to shut off at 2am?

Question

The event traditionally runs until anywhere from 4am to 8am on each of its 4 nights.

Noise abatement laws currently being enforced, require events in Jamaica to lock off by 2am. The police claim to have granted special permission for sumfest to continue at least till 6am in the morning. Do you agree with this special consideration.

What are some good reasons why it should or should not be forced to comply with the regular 2am restriction?

No the Sumfest shoudln't have to stop at 2am. First off any bash going on in Jamaica is not expected to stop at 2am, therefore any Jamaican bash should stay going until the last drunk person gets called out by the dj. Everyone goes to those things to have fun so why shut the party down so early? Come on now if you need proof check out a Passa Passa dvd. KILLER and s**y. CoCo

is 2am that a shut off 2? dammm its like dat now ? but ye i agree with the 6am thing,you cant pick or choose rite? so i guess they just have to take wat they get...i dont think "barcode" did finish at 2 still.

Sumfest is like a Jamaican summer tradition. Force the party to shut off early they may as well just cancel it.

What would be the point? My Sumfest experiences were all enhanced by the morning walk back to the resort.

Sumfest should continue as long as it lasts. Who the h**l lives near to Catherine Hall anyway? I am sure the resorts will not complain and even if they do most of their guests are probably at the concert.

I don't think  that the festival should be cut off at 2am because visitors  travel from all over  the world just to enjoy the music all night long until the sun comes up, And then go back to their resorts to sleep an get ready for another all night till day light event again.

1. Tourism is the CORE business of Montego Bay.

2. More than half of the city's businesses boom during the sumfest week...hotels, restuarants, gas stations, nail & hair salons, car rentals, concessionaires, gift stores, pan chicken vendors, sugar-cane vendors, orange vendors...etc.

3. Even if you DO NOT work in a business listed above (for example... a furniture store), you benefit in the following weeks, when people walk in and can afford to buy a new couch or tv or fridge. The money gets to EVERYBODY.

4. Basically the festival is NEEDED. This is why Sumfest came about as soon as Reggae Sunsplash left.

Taking the above into consideration, only a silly, selfish or self-destructive person would DARE suggest that Sumfest close at 2am.

It is an ESSENTIAL tradition in Montego Bay. 6am? 8am? It doesnt matter. So long as it doesnt disturb any essential traffic in the morning, it should be EXEMPT.

It is just not intelligent for anyone to compare it to any other parties or dances that get forced to lock off at 2am. They are not in the same category.
