Question:

Should Roddick and Sharapova just focus on doubles right now?

I just saw 2 huge upsets today as they both lost to low ranked players. Obviously the players that beat them know how to play at the net and have great shot making attributes. But from what I saw Roddick and Sharapova need some work, especially at the net with their movement and shots. I think doubles would really help and with Roddicks serve he could win some titles. Anyway, I thought Sharapova was the best player since Henin left, but now Im thinking she is the most overrated,I just thought they looked horrible on grass today, what do you think?

  1. Sharapova still has a future if she can get her confidence back and not put so much pressure on herself, however unless Roddick can learn anything besides serving big, he has no tennis future anymore.

  2. LOL what court does Andy not look horrible when he loses? Doubles will not help Andy because he will just keep sticking to only his serve and will not keep a partner long. It's not like Sharapova has dropped down to #30 in the world so she doesn't have to go back to doubles to learn the basics again

  3. LMFAO! Yes, they are both players that rely heavily on their serve and power, very similiar players. Andy Roddicks career is over, as a player who only has a mediocre serve and the rest of his game sucking so badly he is a one slam wonder. The only fans he has are those little girls that don't know sh*t about tennis. Andy Roddick would be ranked 100 without his serve. Sharapova's all or nothing, power from the baseline game and no plan B or C, really proves that she is overrated and doesn't have as much talent or skills as the other top players. Sharapova doesn't have the ability to observe her opponents weakness and modify her game when she is being beat, something the Williams and the Serbs are capable of.

Sharapova and Roddick should consider doubles together...

  4. In a way, yes. They need their serves and volleys. They definently don't want to get into ground stroke rallies, that's for sure!

  5. they should play mixed doubles

  6. they both played horribly 2day! they should be a mixed doubles team and get more net practice.

  7. Sharapova actually played pretty well today at the net.  It was her serve that really killed her.  But both Sharapova and Roddick could benefit from doubles play, even though that probably won't happen.  Sharapova actually has a pretty good career record in doubles, and a couple titles, but she hasn't played doubles since 2004.

  8. They are playing doubles?

I will say this much. As for Roddick, he has a serve and thats it. No diversity within his game, no topspin backhand, and not all that great a volleyer. He came onto the tour thinking that with his serve it will give him great success. He wasnt told though, at that very time he was coming up with his serve, that many were improving their returns, their groundstrokes, and volleying. he also is his worst enemy with that stubbron nature of his to go along with his temperment. One reason Connors left, for he saw all this and wanted no part.

As for the over rated, over talked about Sharapova, she needs to work on her ground game and movement more than anything and spend less time concerning herself with her wardrobe, and magazine covers. Even the media, as always, as usual, spend more print on her attire then her game, or lack of, and not that she minds all that either.
