Should SOFTBALL be reinstated as an Olympic sport in 2016?

Definitely softball and baseball should be reinstated! Looks like an anti U.S. decision to me. The venues have been packed for both softball and baseball. Can all the other sports make that claim? They should NEVER have been removed in the first place.

If handball remains then I can't see why softball shouldn't as well.

And what is with the BMX bikes as an Olympic sport....I mean come on.

I really don't see why they're getting rid of it in the first place; it's only been in the Olympics since 1996 which really surprises me. I thought it would've been around for much longer considering how it and baseball are so popular. They're getting rid of softball until at least 2016 allegedly because America "keeps" winning even though they did just lose to Japan and America's won the basketball gold almost every time until last year, so by that logic, they should get rid of basketball, too. I think it has more to do with lack of interest, but if they're getting rid of softball because the American women keep winning, I think they have to get rid of baseball too because there have to be the same number of sports for men and women. Tony M: it's baseball for WOMEN.

It was removed as it is more dominant in certain parts of the world and not others.  The aim of the Olympics is to have events that are played all over the world with no major dominance by one country/area.

Definitely!  Softball & Baseball were taken out because they are primarily played only in the eastern hemisphere...there are other events that are dominated by the Europeans...you don't see us crying to the IOC!

I will watch softball any day over hand ball, or ping pong...er table tennis, or even badmitton...I have no clue why they would drop it, makes no sense to me.I love to watch a wide variety of events, and, to me, this is a major event. How many countries are involved?? If only one or two countries were involved,then, Ok...Not the case here... Buck the system!

No.  I always have been impressed by the underhand throw.  Whether they are girls or boys playing the game, it is the same.  But I guess the world doesn't view things the same.

I agree with you.

If the IOC can justify keeping Trampoline (not a sport in my opinion) and Synchronized Diving (what's the point, nothing original about it) then Softball (women) & Baseball (men) should be in the games.

Both are terrific team sports.
