I understood that SSI recepitients would not receive rebates but some have. Should they since they are government supported?

  1. SSI was NEVER eligible.

Many SSI recipients failed to understand that "supplemental income" is different from retirement and disability pay.  Retirement/disability pay is based on having had years of qualifying income.  Supplemental income is when you are destitute.

If an SSI recipient filled out the 1040A and claimed they had retirement/disability income when they didn't, they have a bad claim.  The IRS *will* be able to figure it out and should ask for the $300 to be returned since the individual was NEVER entitled to get it.

Whether or not the IRS actually pursues these cases is another matter.

  2. Entitled.  Where did that concept come from?  The government protecting you against yourself.  What a country!

  3. SSI isn't qualifying income.  SSDI, social security disability, is qualfying income just like SS retirement is.
