Should Schools be equipped with armed guards and metal detectors?

There are already schools that are. If the crime statistic is high enough then yes definitely. If suburban communities would like to prevent another Columbine, then it might be a good idea. It would be nice if they weren't needed but that is not always the case in today's society.

My justification:

1) A school is a place of learning, and making it into an airport implies that no one can be trusted, hence, prohibiting education.

2) Invokes fear; even if there are no problems, the presence of said items would instill a sense of urgency at something happening.

3) False sense of security; having said items would put people into a false sense of security, potentially hindering things during a crisis

4) Restricts freedoms; having said things would limit the ability of students, teachers, parents, and community figures alike to pass freely through the school

5) School budgets are already down; adding these things inevitably trades off with the budget for textbooks or technology, hindering education.
