Question:

Should Starbucks be nationalized?

Well I see that since Americans are not getting their birthright to cheap gas, calls for oil company nationalization are creeping into the discussion. Starbucks earns profit margins considerably greater than oil companies, therefore if oil companies are nationalized I suppose Starbucks should be as well. And we shouldn't stop there. Any industry that earns "excessive" profit margins as defined by the annointed ones should be nationalized. Do you agree?

  1. And be operated by govt employees??? How long do you want to wait in line for a cop of coffee???

  2. In the US, Starbucks is not making as much money as it used to.

  3. well seeing how congress lost 2 million on their own lunch room and decided to go private because they couldn't run it right.   sure.

  4. Coca-Cola also has a higher return on their investment than American oil companies.  Perhaps they should also be Federally regulated.  Oh, let's not forget Microsoft too...

  5. No.  Starbucks is losing money.  Where have you been?

  6. Obama is a Marxist. Nationalization of all industry is definitely on his agenda. Congresswoman Maxine Waters is already making threats (read floating an idea on behalf of Obama)regarding the imposition of it.

  7. Yes, along with insurance companies and banks and MacDonald's.  No more will we be burdened by profits!!

  8. No. I hate Starbucks. Hate is a strong word. I refuse to pay that much for a cup of coffee. I'm great with real coffee beans that I grind at home or Chock Full O' Nuts.

One problem is that businesses are too focused on finance. It can lead to really stupid long term decisions.

Capitalism is painful. Things turn around but no one knows how long and what happens to those in the mess of it.

The leftists are not dumb. I know plenty that probably could walk circles around you because they are highly educated and have real world experience. Even my dad is on your side but acknowledges the valid points made by the left.

Hate is not a good thing. It distorts your views. It's better to try to be more objective and remember there are 2 sides, more questions than answers, etc. Just because we believe it doesn't make it true.

edit: People don't object to profits. Of course not. That isn't the problem. You have a small group of people making huge money while other people that work very hard and help contribute to those huge profits that get the shaft. It becomes a question of how much do you really need and at what expense? It comes down to our values as a country. These are serious concerns. Do you like seeing higher crime?

Look around. Maybe things are all rosey in your world but it's not in other parts. You can blame people but it may not be entirely their fault. If we do things differently then maybe we can improve it so it's not costing us all more than it needs to.

I'm for actually using our brains to solve problems rather than just ignore or try to sweep away. Why? I like solving problems.

  9. no one is calling for nationalization, but  eliminating   billions of subsidies would be a start for companies with LARGEST PROFITS IN THE WORLD.

  10. ummmmmmmmmmm.........yes

  11. What a great point!  If it's good for the gas industry, then why not the coffee industry?  Gas gets your car going, but coffee gets your body going!  ;-)

Actually, I am all for the free market, so I don't think anything like that should be nationalized.  We are not a communist or socialist nation and I think companies should be allowed to do business and make profit as long as they are not truly price gouging.

  12. Coffee is not central to the economy and isn't driving a recession and a war.

When we go to war with Guatemala and Kenya over coffee, maybe then we can talk.

  13. That is exactly what this country needs. Bigger government. Let's all go out and boycott anything that is profitable and we'll have to wait in line to buy toilet paper and shoes too.
