Should Starbucks employees expect tips, when McDonalds, and other places don't do this?

Should customers be expected to help pay Starbucks employees wages? Isn't this like begging for money? Do you think that this is fair? Should it be legal? McDonalds, Arby's Dairy Queen, Krogers, CVS Pharmacy, Penneys, Sears, Target, Walmart, and K-mart, and other places do not put out tip jars, why should Starbucks?

  1. No they shouldn't be allowed tip jars.  it's not like it is a diner or pizza place.  and no it is not fair and shouldn't be legal

  2. I can see your point, but when someone strolls in asking for a half and half 32 degree latte with soy and hint of hazelnut and only a pinch of sugar with non dairy whip cream. I think they deserve a tip (I've seen people get away with a free coffee because it was not made to their exact specifications).

  3. No.

Thanks for your question.. thought I was the only one who felt this way!

If you work for Starbucks it is your job to make coffee.  If someone comes in and asks for a specific type of latte or whatever  then is it not your job to do this to the customers specifications?   Why should the customer give you a tip for doing what you're suppose to?   And by the way, Starbucks coffee ain't all that and a bag of chips.  I'd rather have Mcdonalds new premium or even their iced coffee.  It's cheaper and tastes much better.

  4. Of course it is fair and legal.  The tip jars are also very easy to ignore, so don't tip if you don't want to.

I think a better question is why *don't* fast food workers get tips.  I would rather see them be allowed to have tip jars instead of taking away tip jars from Starbucks.  But one does not affect the other.

The food industry has always been a place where people are likely to tip, so I don't think it is comparable to places like Krogers or Sears.  Ice cream stores often do have tip jars, although I can't remember if I've seen one at DQ.

  5. No I don't think so

  6. no.

  7. i agree with you !

personally I prefer  the service that  MacDonalds offer ...........

  8. personally i think guys at MCD and other chains work their azzes off and NEVER get tipped, but some fancy resaturant waiters do get tipped but dont work as hard...i fail to see the logic

  9. They should because McDonalds is just a fastfood place when Starbucks  sells very good coffee and add alot of flavor to the coffee

  10. I think Starbuck's employees should get tips, at least the baristas.  Being a barista takes some amount of talent. The employees at fast food restaurants simply reheat frozen food - no talent involved there.

  11. No --- none of them should expect tips.  If it's hard work, or the customers are demanding, that is just part of the job.  They don't make $2/hr, like waiters & waitresses do in restaurants.  If they don't like the way things work at Starbucks, then they should move on.  It's not up to the rest of us to supplement their income.

  12. NO, not unless your kind enough to give!!!
