  1. if still being taught at schools there must be demand for it. no need to abolish it.

If you are taking secretarial course it should not be abolished.  Because it is still being used in all courts, as it speeds up the stenographer in taking dictations and when a read back is called for he or she would be able to transcribe or narrate exactly to the last letter and punctuation.  Much like studying / becoming a Seaman, no mater how outdated you still have to study Morse Code.

    How about Court Stenographers?   They would lose their job.


  7. It should not be abolished unless there are new (and better) conventions made that can replace it. As it is, it is still serving its purpose -- e.g. taking down court proceedings. And even if there are newer shorthand conventions already, you don't have to abolish the old one; just allow people and institutions to make the choice. In time, the less useful one will just die a natural death.
