Should Thailand move its capital to Issan?

I think a new capital would stimulate growth and be more accessible to more of the population. Bangkok is the world's 22nd largest city by population with approximately registered 8,160,522 residents (July 2007) and nearly 15 million total.

  1. yeah, and people over there will just turn the whole country to someting similar to the neighbors over there.

it no surprise if they want to turn thailand to L..., K.... so that they can feel it as home.

and why issan? why not somewhere pack by people with brain? not somewhere you can just buy vote so easy with money.

  2. No I think it's a stupid idea.

  3. I like the idea but suggest Sukhothai instead as

    1) it was the original capital; and

    2) in central region but closer/more convenient for people from Lanna and Issan.

  4. I know you want to show support for the area of Thailand you love but it's not actually a very good idea.  Kept it in Bangkok and make Ice Cube the next PM.

  5. Many countries such as Canada, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, and others have chosen relatively small cities as their capitals.

There is no compelling reason why the biggest and the wealthiest city in the country needs to be the political capital.  In fact, many countries have deliberately avoided making their biggest and wealthiest city the capital of the country in order to avoid divisions in the country such as the one happening now in Thailand.

When one city starts dictating its terms to the rest of the country.  Then the rest of the country is not going to like that a lot.

But one thing that would prevent politicians from moving the capital of Thailand is the King's residence in Bangkok.  Moving the capital probably would be considered disrespectful to the King.  And I'm sure the King would not approve moving the capital to another city.  Because the present anti-government protesters are claiming to be royalists.  And the King so far hasn't said anything to dispell the impression that these protesters are representing the King's wishes and views.
