Should There Be Another Grand Slam?

Question

I have always though there should be another Grand Slam. Preferably in between the US and the Aussie. I think that there should be one with another surface such as gravel, carpet etc. And it should be located in Russia since there are so many big names from Russia. Or at least Change the Aussie or US's surface.

What are your thoughts?

Europe has two Slams, USA one. I agree with you. Asia should bid for one, eliminating the Aussie.  I'd like to see another soft court similar to clay.  And 4 Slams are enough. Because players are already over loaded with their schedule.

I don't think there's a need for another grandslam. The players need to rest too.

I would really like that the other Hardcourt Grand Slam be changed to carpet, so that all 4 slams would have different surfaces.

i think 4 slams is enough, and the australian open should be given to china and made the chinese slam! i hope the chinese officials make an official bid soon because there have been rumours the they will make a bid after the olympics! australia has poor facilities and its not a major world power! russia should get the end of year masters cup and it should be played on carpet!

I don't think there should be another Grand Slam. As for people saying there should be a grand slam in Asia, the Aussie Open (my favourite) is the "Asia-Pacific" grand slam. They actually get ballkids from Asian countries as well as the Aussie kids to have a part in the Aussie Open.

You will probably have to elimate some tournaments because you can't have tennis players playing so much or their prime playing years will be shortened more than it is already. A carpet grandslam as some people have suggested sounds interesting. Where it should be played that's another story.

Think about the players for a second!  Already there is a huge amount of discord between the players and the ATP/WTA because the players feel that their schedule is too intense.  I recently saw Rafa Nadal (men's #1) interviewed, and he said that there's barely anyone left on tour who hasn't been injured, largely as a result of the packed schedule.

Another grand slam would be murder for the professional players.  Also, in between US and Aussie is the only "down time" pro players get to recuperate.  They would never stand for another major tournament plugged in there.

no, i do not think there should be another slam..... 4 majors is enough when u consider they have to compile a full schedule of tournaments in bewteen...

there is already enough problems with injury and fatigure on the tour, and players complaining about having to do too much. we do not need to add another bad element...

but i am open to the idea of changing the australian opens surface to something else..
