  1. Are you from Spain?  This has been part of their culture and religious beliefs since the 1940's, why would we or anyone deprive them of their right?  I'm sure you have traditional festivals which you celebrate that involve materials which can be put to great use instead of "wasting" it.

  2. Firstly, it is a cultural event.  Though i don't agree that all culture has equal merit (female mutilation is "cultural"), there is very little harm in this one.  And chances of getting it banned - slim to none.

Secondly, I would like to see you try getting that many tomatoes to less developed countries without losing too many tomatoes or causing further ecological damage by using fuel to get them there or tins to put them in.  And do they want tomatoes?  In a reverse situation, we would probably not take too kindly to a whole heap of mangoes when what we need is bread.

Finally, this is hardly the biggest source of food waste in Europe.  Only recently the newspapers reported the UK bins 1/3 of its bought food each week!  So, is one day in Spain worth getting in a twist about?  I don't think so.

  3. No, definitely not. It's their culture. Please respect that. They have their own ways of expressing things that other races don't understand. So, just leave them alone.

  4. how about banning food waste globaly?

  5. tomatoe festival is part of spain's culture, but it probably would be nice if they used the tomatoes in a different yet effective way, but still didn't have fun with it.

  6. You are just focusing on one event, that event shouldn't be anywhere near the first to be banned.  There is so much more wasting in this world that it is impossible to ban it all, but from my point of view, yes the tomatoes would be much more helpful being donated to less fortunate people.

  7. Perhaps the tomatoes should be dropped from high towers instead of donkeys.Last year there was tomato shortage which pushed up the price ,does seem a waste to chuck `em around.

  8. not at all.  The festival encourages the production of even more tomatoes.  Encourage the production of tomatoes and you help feed the world.  Make life fun. Fun is more important than extending misery in the third world.

  9. You have a snowballs chance in h**l of ever changing that.
