Doesn't it almost seem like they must have a lot of stock in the oil companies and gas producing companies and they are acting together to fix the prices because when ever they announce how many more drivers will be on the road the price of gas sky rockets and never comes down???

  1. The gasoline retailers aren't stupid. They don't react to AAA's announcements, believe me - they already know when the drivers are hitting the road.

  2. I manage gasoline inventories for a major oil company and you don't understand the way we work.

Take Thanksgiving, the busiest travel holiday.  We've already planned our forecasts for November and at the beginning of October, they're set in stone.  Refineries have committed time and feedstock to produce to our forecasts, for better or worse.  Pipelines have blocked off time as needed to move products to the respective terminals.  Terminals are already calculating where to store volume for the tankers to distribute to the stations.  We've already set pricing strategies and lined up distribution channels to make sure we can cover demand.

Nothing Tripe A says has any impact on our business.  From our perspective, it's old news.  We will be calculating February volumes and committing to January forecasts at Thanksgiving.

  3. What??? AAA is insurance for car service--not a gas company. What does an announcement have to do with it?? They are doing advertising for themselves and that is all. It is like blaming UFOs for gas prices--that is just NOT true
