  1. yes but not at least for another 7-10 years at least

  2. If Turkey is allowed in then I want Ham and Pastrami too.  Oh don't forget the mayo -- heheh

  3. no

  4. I feel that Turkey should take their trials and use it as strength. The country can have a really good economy if they work at it. The EU would be pointless for them if they got thier economy up and running. To answer your question though I feel they should be allowed to join. Despite the fact they are completely in Europe they do have history with all of those countries.

  5. On certain conditions, yes.

  6. Dear Ambassador smilco2004, a scarce resource is a good description for Turkey. It is accompanied well by a White Russian sauce smothered in vodka-soaked capers, or accompanied by roasted pine needles from Chypre shmattered in a lovely miel au nature d'europeen. ABsolutement, Turkey 2007!

  7. Yes--Later.

Turkey is currently suffering from Kurdish separatism and religious strife. Give it another year to bring these issues under control.

Otherwise the bridge to the Middle-East is modern enough to successfully enter the E.U. It may be the only bridge to peace.

  8. absolutely, definitely no!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although, ataturk has modernized and secularized the old ottoman empire and made contemporary turkey as it is right now, we can never be sure of the stability of this state.

Firstly, it straddles two continents but it is mostly in asia and mostly, it is islamic.  This would be bad for europe since in the long run, extremists will spread throughout the west and create trouble.

Secondly, if they will succeed in becoming an EU member, they will influence the policy-making of the organization and make it less liberal, less free, less humanitarian...

Thirdly, this would be a slap in the face of the See of Rome who envisioned this modern EU in the first place.

Fourth, they have the worst human rights record in europe.

They are slaughtering Kurds by the thousands and they deny that they even exist as a separate linguistic group; even insisting that the Kurdish language is a dialect of Turkish.

And what right have they got to enter Iraqi Kurdistan?

Haven't they killed enough kurds in their own territory?

Sixth, they are not even acknowledging that they have massacred the Armenians, saying that it was only a minor insurgency that was crushed.

Seventh, the military intervenes in politics every now and then in this supposedly, "democratic state".

Summing up, Turkey is a backward poor country that will not contribute anything to the EU, it will just suck the resources of Europe dry.

    Hence, unequivocally NO.........................................

  9. I think Turkey should be included, yes. The EU has done much to unite Europe over the years through establishing economic, political and social ties between the member states. I believe that the more states that are a part of it, the more peace and stability will exist.

  10. Turkey is technically located in Asia and making it a member of the EU is a misnomer.

  11. Absolutely no. Turks would be all over Europe in search of a better standard of living.

  12. No firstly they have showing their true colour when the Danish joke about Mohamed etc. They burned down EU offices etc in Turkey. Also they have bad human rights records in Turkey. There is one country in Europe who is oppose to Turkey been a member of the EU that is Germany.

  13. No. Turkey does not have anything positive to bring to the European Union.

  14. well, i'd like to see such a victory to Turks, but we all know it wont happen, Europe didnt recover yet from the Ottoman armies that got to Vienna and almost crushed Europe, so Europe will always hate Turks, because of their history, and because of their religion, which -as we all saw- is a major problem between Europe and the Muslim world, like what happened in the Danish cartoons inncident.

  15. Yes because then fascists in Europe would have nothing more to fight for

  16. Yes. but will not happen

  17. Definitely, it should.

More than anything, Turkey is the bridge between Europe and Asia.  It needs to firmly have an integrated relationship with Europe.

  18. NO!    Europe has too many Muslims as it is.

  19. No.  But then, I don't believe the EU is good for anything or anyone.

  20. No. Because Turkey, geographically is not part of Europe.

  21. I think it would go a long way to bridge the east-west divide (givin that Turkey is predominatley muslim).  However Turkey does have a lot of domestic changes it needs to make so that its processes are consistent with those required by the EU.  Obviously, the decision will be based on how a possible Turkey membership would affect other EU nations.  It also wouldnt make Russia very happy but any form westward organization has never been beneficial for the Russians.

  22. Of course, Turkey should be admitted! I am sad to see it hasn't happened a long time ago. I was so surprised to see in Turkey how hard everybody is working and how kind everyone was. Besides, Turkey has so many remains of early European history. The EU shouldn't be about religion! The EU is accepting countries of extreme poverty, not trying at all doing something about growing their economy. Turkey is self-sufficient and would only add to the EU. I am feeling very ashamed of being European in the face of the Turks and I am wishing them all the best.

  23. Absolutely not, if Turkey gets into the EU then not only will Europe increase in Muslims but it will be another gateway for potential terrorism. Another thing is that the Pope is the one who created the idea of a unified EU, and letting Turkey in will basically defy him.  No.
