Should Turkey be allowed to be part of EU in future?

I hope not - we have inherited enough problems with who has currently joined - lets integrate what we have taken on board right now first before inviting Turkey to join.

Personally I am against them joining. They are a muslim country with no logical reason to be part of EU. Muslims do not share western values at all - the fact they want Sharia Law in this country underlines that fact.

No. despite the well mannered waiters and bar staff that are in the hotels, the  Turks are a cruel and barbarous people with an appalling record on human rights !

Perhaps, if turkey was allowed membership, the U.K. should resign in protest..............PLEASE!!!

you have no knowledge at all. Turkey is the ONLY secular Muslim nation. They don't have sharia law in Turkey, despite 99% of turks being muslim.

The other day the ruling party wanted the Hijab to be allowed in universities, yes a MUSLIM country has banned it at uni, but the ruling party was taken to court and accused of applying sharia law.

If it meets the criteria by which we have allowed other countries to join- then I don't see that we can stop them-

personally I don't want them to- but then as I said- we have allowed other not really European countries to do so - so how can we object?

However i think that Turkey shares very little in common with the rest of Europe and economic  and legal integration would be next to impossible.

However as the EU is about power and control i think they will become member as a way of strengthening control of arab countries.  the Border with  Iraq with be valuable when it comes to control of fuel supplies.

I don't think Turkey will ever become a member of the EU.  The EU is a white boys' club.  Turkey is a Muslim country with a very poor human rights record.

The USA has been trying to get Turkey EU membership in exchange for Turkey being used as a base for US military operations.

The main problem is one of Geography.  We'd have to call it the European and a bit of Asia Minor Union.  Mind you, that didn't stop Turkey being in the Eurovision song contest or Euro2008.  The next thing would be Israel applying to join, then we'd have some political acrobatics to do.
