Yes.  It would increase the prosperity in their country,  It would increase the exchange of ideas and knowledge with Europe.  It would pull them closer to Europe.  They would be a door to other Mid Eastern countries.  Let us open some of the doors to let some light into these peoples lives.  They are now living in darkness.

I don't think it is a good idea.

It's a big country , with big population and not too well developed. Except from her coasts in the Aegean Sea, Istanbul and Ankara all the other country is poor.

There are the known problems with the human rights, Armenian Genocide, Cyprus the only European Country which is separated in two, the relations of Turkey with the neighboring countries etc.

The most important, Turkish Army has more power than their Government.

Geographically, only the little part of East Thrace and Istanbul is in the European Continent.

Furthermore, i don't think that EU wants to have her borders near the Middle East which is an unstable region.

Historically Turkey had not a good contribution in Europe, only bad .

EU lost a little bit of her stability with the entrance of the 12 new members.

If Turkey join, there would be a big problem.

Only for Turkey would be good.

In my opinion, EU can make a treaty with Turkey for privilege relations between them (like Iceland) . But without full membership.

Sorry , but this is the truth. If Turkey join EU, who is next? India?

They still deny the armnian genocide,

It s not a real democracy yet ,

Most of turkish territory is located in Asia.

They have no cultural ties with Europe,

Ottoman Empire tried to invade Europe from its creation until its end.

They refuse to accept cyprus as a real state.

80 millions of muslims having the right of living freely in Europe. It' s frightening !!!

They have a poor economy compared to us, it will jeopardize Europe' s economy.

I know that in France most of  french people are against their entry in Europe.

Except that it' s not a bad country, people are nice there, but let' s face it , this country has nothing to do with Europe, why not China ?

If they improve their human rights record, sure. Turkey has been historically European, though more of a cross-roads than anything. I think it would do the country good, as well as strengthen an ally in a region that has a deplorable reputation.

No.First half of Turkey is not in Europe,second they refuse to do anything about human rights violations saying is the Muslim way.They must meet a certain standard before entering EU

You also have 2 consider that Bosnia-Herzegovina is a country in the Balkan Peninsula & has a Muslim population just like that small section of northwestern Turkey. & according to Wikipedia, Bosnia-Herzegovina along w/ the rest of the Balkan states are either official or potential candid8s. Also, Cyprus, a island south of Turkey, is already a EU member. But North Cyprus is only recognised by Turkey. So North Cyprus & the Kurdish population in eastern Turkey r major considerations 4 or against EU membership.

The integration of Turkey would be a positive thing.  The nation would benefit from increased trade and decreased tariffs, etc.  I am not sure that everybody on the EU would be excited about this.  Cyprus is a member of the EU and they dont particularly like Turkey since the 1974 military intervention where they annexed the island of Cyprus.  They have been fighting about it ever since, and I am sure that Cyprus would have a hard time agreeing to let them in.  Also, the whole talk about going into Northern Iraq to stop the Kurds thing doesn't help them at all either.  So, personally I think it would be a benefit to Turkey.  The EU members may not like it, as it may put an economic drain on the organization, much like the 10 member push in 2004.  And, they arent fully in line with the policy perscriptions of the rest of the EU.  My vote is a probably not.

FYI, the International  Map Association doesn't even consider Turkey to be a European country, technically its Asian to them.  Just food for thought.

No! They flood Europe with Mosques etc. Plus 80% of Turkey is in the Middle East. Plus it has bad human rights records. Plus the Turkish government won't admit it's part in the Armenian genocide. I know the Germans are against the Turkish joining the EU.
