Question:

Should Turkey join the European Union?

Turkey became an official candidate to join the EU in 2005. It has a population of 71 million people, most of whom are Muslims. Do you think it should join the European Union, showing that a moderate Islamic country can integrate into the Western world? Or do you feel that it has no place in the EU, considering that its culture and society are so different from the rest of Europe?

  1. They should not be able to.

Because they are not part of Europe.

    Period.

  2. it is to different to be in

  3. What do they share with Europe?

    - humanism ?

    - reformation ?

    - modernism ?

    - judeo-christian background ?

    - gender equality ?

    - secularism ? (their president is a former radical moslem)

I think they are important to Europe.....

.... as a partner and ally, not as a member

  4. No. Not another mainly islamic people, never!

  5. When the country stops torture and respects the human rights of its population and those on the Iraqi border....

By definition it is in Asia and I would rather not have a border with the Middle-East.

Society and culture are also very different...

    I say 'no'.

  6. No, it's not up to EU standards and I don't think it can put anything in.

I mean at the moment Britain pays £43 billion per day into Europe and Turkey is too poor, It will only ever take take take

  7. Well, culture and religion are not factors that are up for consideration in this process.

So, what other reasons do you have that they shouldn't join?

  8. Europe is an entity - a fairly loose entity, but still very much an entity.  Why? Because it has some very important things in common :

    Race

    Religion and culture

    Language

Turkey does not share a single one of these.

Turkey invaded Europe and oppressed Spain, Greece and the Balkans for 400 years before they were driven out and Europe became European again.

Now some very immoral (but politically correct) people (like the USA) are pushing for Turkey to be a part of Europe, Absolute nonsense !

  9. That's far too intelligent a question to post here.

No - they shouldn't be let in because it's too many people of an 'alternate' moral persuasion.  And most of it is in Asia anyway.

The reason they will be let in (sometime before 2020) is because the West would rather them be friends with our side, (as opposed to Iran's side).

  10. No. I am opposed primarily because of concerns about immigration and Islam. Membership of the EU includes visa-free travel throughout all member-states. In the post-911 context I am also concerned about terrorism.

  11. no, because they forcibly kicked out the Europeans in the 1920's and now they want to be members of the EU. Maybe they should admit their guilt first over their genocide of Armenians, Kurds and Greeks.

  12. As long a Britain is out i couldn`t give a toss.

  13. TURKEY WOULD SERVE BETTER INTERNATIONAL INTEREST OF SECULAR BROTHERHOOD BY BEING PART OF THE EU RATHER THEN BEING OUT AND FALLING EASY PREY TO THE ORTHODOX AND PRE HISTORICAL ISLAMISTS.

  14. only if they admit the Armenian genocide.

  15. Of course, absolutely right.

  16. At this time, I dont think its best for the EU for Turkey to join.  Although it would certainly be in the best interest of Turkey, the country is too unstable right now to be a member.  Most of the original or long standing members of the EU, like the ECSC members, are still feeling the effects from the 10 member increase in 2004.  It has taken a lot of funding, taxes, etc. from the EU to help these new members out.  It has also brought an influx in immigration, and not particularly the kind that citizens of the EU wanted.  The EU would see a similar scenario with Turkey.  Also, the whole Turkish "we want to invade Northern Iraq to kill the Kurdish PKK" thing doesnt wash over too well with other EU members either.  The country is just not right for the EU right now, but maybe later.

  17. ,

I think the EU should join Turkey,

and take the Muslims from this country and any one who want's to remain in a European union with them,

and we will withdraw back to the septic Isles that rules and governs its self,

                         korky,
