After Russia's invasion of Georgia, Russia thinks it can get away with anything and 'annex any country it wants.

This is very dangerous situation for Europe and is like the cold war.

Giving Nato membership would protect these countries from Russia... and annoy the h**l out of the Russians :)))

(BTW I now that Chechnya is still occupied by Russia)

  1. Should Iraq be offered immediate Nato membership?

  2. Why in the world do you lump Ukraine in with Georgia and Chechnya?  They are apples and oranges.  Chechnya is not a country and Georgia is, well, not like Ukraine, to say the least.

Ukrainians are divided on whether or not they want to join NATO.  The western part of the country (next to Poland) wants it, the eastern part (next to Russia) doesn't.  Let Ukraine focus on joining the European Union first, and then see how they fit into NATO.

  3. NO!  georgia is the aggressor nation in this thing.  georgia bombed the peaceful civilians of Ossetia.

  4. Guys, please do not miss the point.  Nato, especially Nato doesn't want the war with russia. If this happen consequences shout be disaster for every side ( Inc.countries doesn't involved this conflict )

If u want summon some former soviet republic to Nato u shout take full responsibility too .. because Nato agreement so simple at the bottom line.

Nato said = If u wanna mess with one of us, you shout find your butt on the h**l

.. let me explain my thoughts.

Let's imagine it .. If georgia one of the member of nato and if russia attack to georgia ( Inc.Save The Innocent People's Life Saving Operation ) automatically Nato join the war against Russia.

I'm talking about all Nato forces, we are talking about WW III .. I agree with u, they ( Ukraine - Georgia and some Ex-Soviet Republics ) must get a protection against russia's possible aggressions but I'm not sure about full Nato coverage.

Imho Nato officials work hard for found a different solution, they don't leave them I'm sure about it .. let's wait and see until end of this year.

  5. If all these countries were NATO members Russia would be much more hesitant to attack them because it would know that it would mean having to fight all of NATO.

  6. Chechnya for Russia - as Texas for USA.

What do you think about independence of Texas? Or must USA return Texas to Mexico?

  7. No way, USA should not be responsible to defend a country like Georgia that oppresses ethnic groups. Georgia in no way has clean hands in this conflict. The only reason US supports Georgia is due to the stratigic location.

  8. Georgia, Ukraine and Isreal, yes.

Better yet, the USA, Poland, Isreal, Georgia -- countries with a backbone -- should start their own alliance.

  9. quote:

Tina Zakharova, one of the doctors, pointed out chunks of shrapnel which had hit the building.

"This is the humanitarian aid that Georgia sent us," she said, "and that," she said, pointing at a field hospital nearby, "is the help we received from Russia. Which do you think we should chose?" She added: "I've never heard anything so monstrous as people shelling a hospital."

  10. Georgia has repeatedly been aggravating Russia by mistreating the ethnic Russians living in South Ossetia (officially part of Georgia). Russia has had peace-keeping troops in South Ossetia for well over a decade in order to prevent any attempt at ethnic cleansing. What is Russia to do? Step back and watch thousands of people be killed?

The only reason Georgia is acting so aggressively is because it thinks it has the backing of the US, whose interests lie in protecting the oil pipeline running through Georgia.

If these countries were NATO members, all NATO countries would be dragged into a conflict that is best solved by the regional players, not by a world war. I say this in spite of my natural instincts to support the underdog nation against a former occupying force. Remember, Stalin was a Georgian.

This is nothing like the Cold War. It's the same as the break-up of Yugoslavia and the conflict in Northern Ireland. It is still dreadful and tragic, regardless of the historical reasons, and can only be solved by promoting peace, not war.

  11. Why dont we ask Ukrainians if they want to enter Nato first?

  12. Go to h**l Georgia..I mean it only attacked Russia because it thought it had the backing of western nations! And the thing is it expected retaliation but not as hard as this. The thing is Georgian troops have been firing at russian border patrol units for so long and this is aggravated assault, come on even the U.S agrees that Georgia should stop this also I don't think it's (Georgia) going to have success in goining NATO!
