  1. Veterans caring for Veterans.....

    Former Marine Sgt.

Disabled American Veteran and Proud American caring for our Veterans too.

  2. In the Carter administration the Congress passed what was known as the "double dipper" law. Essentially, any retired officer of the military who wanted to take a job with an Executive branch agency (including the VA) would have to forfeit up to 55% of his military pension to accept the position. This included doctors and nurses who retired from the military. I was also affected since I was a Health Care Administrator in the Navy. In addition, any retired officer taking such a position would have to "buy in" to the Federal Employees Pension System with a large chunk of money.

As a result of this law, the experienced pool of retired military health professionals has dried up with regard to their moving over to VA facilities to work.

I'm sure if the Congress amended the law to require that a majority of VA employees be veterans some pressure group will file suit in Federal Court asserting violations of Federal Equal Opportunity Employment laws. That's the nature of life in modern America.

  3. Federal Veterans Hospitals are Federal jobs. Veterans have preference for Federal jobs. Not everyone who works for the Federal government is a Veteran, but there are millions of them who are.

  4. If there are qualified vets on the unemployment rolls they have to hire the vet first because there is a federal law pertaining to this!
