Should Wayne Rooney be dropped from the England national team?

Since his breathtaking arrival onto the international scene for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national team at the European Championships in 2004, Rooney has been seen as the next big thing in English football. What many seem to overlook in
this love for reputation is that Rooney has been extraordinarily below average in his displays for England as far as major tournaments are concerned....
Rooney was expected to be England’s game changing factor at the European Championships in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 and Ukraine but it was the same old story with the Manchester United striker once again. The Englishman’s fans will say that he was
tired, burnt out or that the pressure was too much but these old excuses are now running past their expiry date.
In their first two matches without the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015. Rooney did net on his comeback but everyone who saw England’s
match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032 in the group stages can humbly agree that the England star wasn’t at his best. The surprising thing is that no one will.
Even though we all know in our hearts that Rooney has never been the same player for England as he has been at Manchester United, we naively stick to our belief that maybe he will come good one day. Roy Hodgson declared during
one of his press conferences in the European Championships that England cannot afford to leave out Rooney but is that really the case? Can a argument be made to give Rooney a well deserved hiatus from the England setup?
Against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 in the quarterfinals, Rooney was below par once again. This did not come as a surprise to many as it was England’s defensive approach that was built up as their downfall. Many expected Rooney to be the best from an
obvious mediocre bunch of players but contrary to such expectations it was as if, Rooney had adopted mediocrity as his original mantra at the EUROs.
Some persist with the argument that the Englishman is just playing alongside average players but one only has to take a look at players like Modric at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 who did well at the European Championships
and stood out as performers even though their teams were not blessed with stardom which is ingrained in the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.
It is thus about time that a serious reconsideration takes place on Rooney’s future in Roy Hodgson’s England. Obviously it will be foolish to suggest a pre-mature retirement or exile on Rooney from the England setup but different
options need to be pursued now as over the last 8 years, the Manchester United striker has failed to reproduce his club form for his country. England’s woes continue at the international level and as Hodgson recently suggested perhaps it is time to take a
look at players who were not present at the European Championships for the Three Lions.
Maybe it will be wise to give http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Welbeck. Both the players are young and skilled with the ball at their feet. Rooney needs to realize that his place in the England starting line up
does not come by default as a courtesy of his club reputation  but it comes via performances for the national team, something that has been lacking from his game for some time now.
