Should Wimbledon be called "Home of the Upsets"?

It's like everytime I watch it, theres a huge upset. I love to see how "real" tennis is played. Not some big serving power baseline bullcrap. It's great to see crafty shotmakers out there win against bigger powerhitters. So far Davydenko,Djokovic,Roddick,Sharapova are out. Ivanovic was so close to being out it;s not even funny. But she has a great chance, though I think Serena will take it. Whos next?

  1. i think ivanovic was so lucky. she had a netcord that saved her. watch http://youtube.com/watch?v=_269k7OI_-4  1:15 is when the luck happens

SHE is next to go. lady luck alredy helped her.

  2. grass can be a very unforgiving surface....... alot of bad bounces at times... but i also hear the courts are not as quick as they were even a few years back..

Kuznetsova almost was upset, but she adverted it.. was lucky, and as everyone knows, ivanovic was suppose to be out, but lucky net cord.. i almost feel bad for dechy.. she deserved the match..

    this is karma too people

  3. Wimbledon is a very funny court to play on and the problem is after the French open players only have two weeks break to do the transition and many of them can't do it and that is why many of the top players fall.  They play late in the french open and get no time to train for the adjustment and so fall by the wayside.  That is why there are so many upsets.  It is much faster and you have to be accurate or else the ball is out of the court.  The other hard courts are slower giving the players more time to adjust not so at Wimbledon.

  4. For this season, especially yes. Then again not many play well on grass, especially Americans, and one reason being, they dont have enough time to prepare for the grass. This has been an issue for years and years. Have to hand it to The Spaniards and Europeans, for they used to cry grass is for cows, and yet year after year, they seem to steadily improve on the surface, where as our very own Americans, especially being the men, perform poorly on grass and even clay for that matter. This season though at Wimbledon has created many upsets thus far just concluding the 2nd round. This could be the year that 2 high seeds in mens and womens game surprise all and are victorious. At same time though, the level of competiveness has increased mightily so on both sides of the draw, and not a cake walk for anyone no matter how highly ranked or how good they are. As for the next upset victims, I see Dementieva, Jankovic, and Chakvetadze going down soon enough, and as for the men, just a couple of mild upsets perhaps but Federer and Nadal have difficult paths this year. Unlike years past when top 2 seeds used to have "easy" paths to the semis/finals. Again though the talent out there today is very high and anyone in top 20 and even thereafter in both draws, could win on any given day.

  5. Yes. It should be called that because there have been so many disappointing upsets, and I am completely flabbergasted by them! I'm ashamed of the americans.

  6. You've got a valid point. However, grass is a real difficult surface to play in and most of the tennis stars says this. You can be the world's no. 1 player, but if you're not so good at playing on grass surface, you lose all of your advantages against other players who plays well on grass (even if they are below the top-50 rankings). And for sure, the chances are high that you will get beaten in a grass event like Wimbledon by a less-known player. This is apart from the fact that the tennis courts at Wimbledon are in the midst of an environment where the wind is oftentimes too breezy and gusty, and that will surely affect the accuracy of your shots.
