Question:

Should Yahoo Answers have the baby names category?

I understand how people can be indecisive about what name is better; but is it really good for Yahoo Answers to have the category so parents can ask the "what should I name my child" question?

Seriously, one day you're going to get the "Mommy (or Daddy), why is my name _____? Who picked it? It's for homework we have to do for class."

How wonderful do you think his/her self esteem would be that his parents were so uncaring enough to give them a name from their hearts and instead, lets a few random strangers name their child and the parents simply picks the most soothing sounding one.

I was born way before the time of Yahoo Answers, but I just cringe and hate those parents who really don't care about the life they are bringing into this world so much that they are just giving them a name pulled off a list from a stranger.

  1. Just because someone asks if anyone likes the name they picked out doesn't mean they "don't care about the life they are bringing into this world." Please

  2. I have fun looking at the different name and ideas on here. I bet I am not the only one. It's nice to have names from all over and get diversity in the mix. At least these parents will have a story to tell their kids about their names. My oldest daughter is Bethany because I heard a stranger say that was her name and I liked it.It is also a city near Bethlehem but I didn't know that then.

  3. It's just nice to have some input. A name that is meaningful to you might sound great to you and your family. But individuals who don't know you might not think little Billy Bob Bridges will appreciate his name... And they will not be afraid to tell you.

  4. ok tenny had money but he was tired so he ask tammy to do it thats when tommy  came in with tilly and all there names start with t and end with y

  5. It's better than getting it off something else. Nobody here suggests names like "Miley or Volvo" - and i know children with those names. The stranger doesn't name your children, they give suggestions from baby names books.

    - So indirectly you found it on the internet baby names website?

My niece's name is MADE UP. how is that for caring?

  6. Man, your so right if I had my own kid I wouldn't let some stranger name my kid. It's best to know the kids name before it's born but you must always think about what name your giving your child, you wouldn't want to embarrass your child in his/her childhood and when he/she is in high school it wouldn't be nice trust me.{I'm saving you from a fight with you child you can thank me later}

  7. Not all of these posts in this category are for a persons child.

Some people post about "what is in a name"

Find a name for me for a book...

If I had this name and another, how should I combine them.

It's rare to see a question that just asks people to freeball it and give /random names out.

  8. great post, i totally agree!!

    *4u.

it's a funny thing to think about. haha

    =D

  9. I agree with you, why can't they go out and buy a baby book like people use to do?

I myself have asked a question here but it wasn't for naming my child, it was to do with nicknames. I have had my kids names picked out for the most part of 8 years now. I'm not even pregnant yet!

I don't understand why some cannot look themes for names up themselves, it would take less time than posting it up here.

  10. I strongly disagree.

People here are just suggesting names and offering opinions from a different point of view.

  11. I think the baby names category is very entertaining.

  12. Yahoo! Answers doesn't TELL the parents what to name there children.  It just give them IDEAS of what to use.  I doubt any kid will honestly be hurt by the fact that their parents found their baby's name off the internet - definitely not with all of the baby name websites there are now anyway.

In my case, I basically already know what I'm going to name my children.  I just like to see what other people think, (not that it really matters in my decision making).  Guess I'm just showing off. :)

  13. I really don't think it's like that. People post names that THEY already  like on here and ask for suggestions.

I was named after a character on a daytime soap... how is that for caring?
