Question:

Should Yahoo have a requirement that when you give thumbs down, you have to give a reason?

I'm tired of getting thumbs down for no apparent reason.

For instance, I answered a question about battered women. I mentioned that I knew a battered woman who told me, "nice guys are boring". I got a huge number of thumbs down for that answer. I'm simply quoting what this woman told me. Who is the thumbs down for? Me or her?

  1. Oh, quit whining. I get a dozen thumbs down for posting, "The sun rises in the East."

  2. It would be nice if people justified their downward thumbs but do you really think people that lame and that closed-minded would give a decent explanation?

You would just get a thumbs down and an insult on top of it in most instances I think.

  3. lol u dont have to be worried about it! ppl are strange, let them vote as they wish,

u dont get minus points for those thumbs down, do ya?

  4. Life is too short to worry about thumbs down.......

Everybody in this world does not agree or share the same beliefs.  If they did, I guess that would be called world peace.

  5. I would love to have this option.

So frequently I've wished I could respond to someone's post without having to go back and edit my own post 30 times.  I'd be THRILLED to tell people why they got a thumbs down.

I'd also be thrilled to see explanations for apparently out-of-nowhere TD. A woman can say "I don't like that women are sold for cattle, cut to shreds and sewn shut, then given to men 40 years their senior in Africa" and get a thumbs down. WTF?

  6. Don't take this all so seriously.

  7. No.

Try not to take it so personally.

Go and have a lie down...

PS I have given you a thumbs down.  Actually I have given everyone on this page a thumbs down.

  8. "...put up or shut up" - it's pure genius!

I think they should - at least then you will get what the person is thinking of when they do that.

Some do it to make a point  - it''ll be good to know what that point is.

I'm with you on this one!

  9. Why do you care what the majority of people think? I only care about a select few and their opinions. What is this-junior high? There is no way I want to know more of what some of these people think-it's bad enough reading some of the questions and answers that are posted now.

And what does this question have to do with Gender and Women's studies? If you don't want your questions treated like crud-why don't you post them in the right category? Ask this question in the Yahoo Answers forum where people want to talk about this junk. Next we'll hear how unfair YA is and how they delete all your questions...

  10. You should not care what others say for you /your opinions.  It is good that they don't have explanations because it is a good exercise.   You know,  life and people away from our pcs are very cruel and with no apparent reason.  So,  who cares.  And you know at least you can say  (to paraphrase) : you can thumb  me down but at least hear me out.

  11. I can agree. Only because I'd like to know WHY they are thumbing it down. What is going on in their heads etc.

I'd also like a reason for my questons that keep on getting deleted.
