  1. YES!

  2. hm...yep.

  3. OF course there should be two rugby sections. Those of us who follow both sports would prefer it to be that way and those wanting to find information about one or both sport would prefer it to be that way as there are clearly more posts about rugby union in the "Rugby" section of yahoo answers. This could be down to a number of factors; the wider global fanbase union has (despite League being bigger than Union in Australia and still huge in following in Britain), the Rugby Union World Cup being this year, the Six Nations tournament or perhaps the fact that Union is a toff sport so there are probably more people, myself included, prepared to write about it.

To argue that they are variations of the same sport is a moot point. Rugby Football is a spinoff of soccer and NFL from rugby, would you suggest they just abbreviate these different sections in Yahoo! answers into "team sports with a ball". While you're at it why not just stick cricket in with baseball and see how that goes down. Rugby League is similar to Rugby Union like French is similar to German and requires a section to itself. Mixing the two is detrimental to sharing information in this way as too many questions are being answered where the answer in league is very different to the answer in Union and selecting only one of the two may provide one answer (usually Union's) but doesn't fairly reflect what the answer would be written by a League fan.

Of course League should have it's own section league is a sport of its own.

  4. nope.there are TOO MANY sections now

  5. yes

  6. Yes please yahoo

  7. most definitely

  8. I recently discovered there is a Rugby League page whithin the Football (Australian) section.

  9. Absolutely.

I am a proud New Zealander and a great follower of our National Sport, Rugby Union, this despite the fact I played Rugby League for nearly two decades...and I can assure you, they are two very different sports.

Someone has already made reference to the fact that Union is a purists(toff...) sport with 'upper-class' and 'scholastic' beginnings. This is highlighted in the fact there are 'double' the amount of rules in Union.

It does enjoy a wider following, and although not that much older than League as a recognised sport(10yrs?), Union most definitely, has enjoyed a longer tenure on the World stage.

Union has a slower and different type of build up in its play and its emphasis is placed on power at the 'breakdowns'(rucks, mauls) and 'set pieces'(scrums and lineouts) often releasing the ball to faster outside backs who finish with speed. To avoid the 'b/d' and 's/p' a team must achieve multiple and continuous phases in their march to the line.

League, to my mind is pure and simple a 'spectator sport', crash and bang 'Gladiator' stuff with 'working class' beginnings. For years it was refferred to as a legalised 'brawl'.

In anycase, with half the rules and half the 'down time'(no rucks, mauls and lineouts), as when a runner is tackled, play is simply restarted by 'rolling the ball' back to feed the next 'runner'. There are no lineouts in League and there is no weight 'brought on' in the scrums, with the emphasis on 'continuity'.

Over the years League has progressed to an amazingly fast, tactical and skilled showpiece whilst upholding its reputation as 'hardness' personified.

For those who haven't seen League, pay and watch the Australian Competition just once...you will not only see its differences to Union, but I'm sure you will agree it is deserved of its own status in sports discussion.

  10. Wrong they are two different variations of one sport

  11. No. It's all egg chasing.

  12. Yes; it's like putting American football with Australian football. League and Union are two very different games.

  13. Agree with you!

  14. No, not really. Rugby Union and League are too close to be given a different rating, also it is interesting as a Union man to look and comment on League questions.

  15. Yes. I enjoy both sports but so many discussions end up as an argument about which sport is "better". I'd still post in both but hopfully, we'll lose the posters just there to slag off the other code.

  16. Yes, unions so much better

  17. Yes - have different appeals to different audiences, so why not?
