  1. Mitts are okay and only cost a few bucks.

Yes you should wear something. You will actually learn to hit harder if you are hurting your hand less- since you are less likely to subconciously pull the punch.

  2. It is important to have gloves b/c you don't want to cut your hands. you can find wraps and cheap gloves at a models or other sporting good store however I would recommend first looking at ringside.com to find a pair of gloves you can afford and if not in the long run saving for a good pair of gloves will be worth the investment. Also if you join a boxing gym a lot of them will be able to provide you with equipment to use until you can get your own.

  3. That's a really tough question.  If you have gloves why not wear them?  Never given this much thought.  I'll say wear the gloves? What's the down side?

  4. yes. i learned the hard way. do not ever puch a puching bag without gloves or you will break your knuckles

  5. Yes, unless you love fractured hands!

  6. yeah it is very important to wrap your hands properly and wear gloves, otherwise u could break your hands and have serious injuries

  7. Absolutely!! Proper protection is a must in this sport, being unprotected can cause serious damage to your hands. Not only are the gloves important the proper wrapping of your hands are a must as well. There are many sites that have good ideas to wrap your hand. There are many bones in your hand breaking just one will take the effectiveness away of proper punching techniques.

  8. There is a very good possibility that you will injure your hands (boxer's sprain) or wrists if you are hitting hard and not using proper gear (wraps and gloves).

Wraps are $5. You can get an acceptable pair of gloves on sale for $15-20. That will get you started.

You should not be boxing without proper gear, whether it's sparring or even just working on the bags - the risk of injury i too great. Stick to your shadowboxing until you can afford the gloves.
