Should a 12 year old be watching a 6 year old?

sometimes my almost 12 year old will watch my 7 year old but only for a few mintues like say I have to run up to the store for milk or something. but that is about it.

I used to babysit all the time when I was 11-12 and it was for various ages from newborn to 7-8 year olds...as long as you are mature enough to handle any situation that could arise, it should be okay...

no way should a 12 year old  watch any children,i know it is illegal in the state of illinios. they are not old enough to be held accountable for their actions.

I think that it depends both on the 12 years olds maturity and the 6 year olds behavior.    

When I was 14, I was watching a 6 year old and a 1 year old, and I went outside to throw a dirty diaper in the trash and the 6 year old locked me out.    I never watched those kids again.

yes, depends if their mature enough. I'm thirteen and have been watching my little brother who is 5 since i was 11 and he was 3. So yes they should be allowed

But a suggestion to prepare the 12 yr old would be to contact the nearest hopital and find out if they have a 'SITTER IN TRAINING" program...

If the 12 year old has a babysitting license and is very responsible - maybe. I personally wouldn't do it, too young for me.

The Red Cross babysitting course is for 11 year - 15 year olds.

Depending upon the maturity of the 12 year old, it might be acceptable.

Sure!  I was eleven when I babysat a 3 year old and a 5 year old.  The babysitter needs to be responsible and mature.

Well it's legal where I'm from.  New MExico.  My 12 year old used to watch her baby brother and her 7 year old sister. I trusted her completely.  It was the 15 year old that had no sense. I see nothing wrong with it.
