His therepist said he needs to know his name, both parents full names, his phone #, and i'm not sure if the address was mentioned or not. He knows his and his parents first names and he city and state wher he lives.

Seems a little too much to me. Any thoughts?

  1. That's a requirement for entrance into most kindergartens.  I think you need to find a new therapist who has *real* experience with actual children.  Like one that has his/her own.

The fact that he knows the city and state is remarkable for a 2 year old.  Most 2 year olds are learning to put 2-4 word sentences together.

  2. Beginning to learn his phone number is very helpful.  I began teaching my son his phone number with a song that we made up .  He learned it very well, and was excited when people (grandma) asked him and he knew it.

I am a preschool teacher and we begin working on phone numbers at 2.  We have all heard of those horror stories of kids wandering, though we think it won't happen to us, you never know.  If they know anything about where they are from, it may help someone get them back to you.  Just take a familiar tune like twinkle twinkle little star, or the wheels on the bus and make up a song about the phone number.

Hope this helps, and good luck.  He is not to young to know this, you just have to be creative when teaching it.  You can also find several resources online which would help you teach it to him in very creative ways.

  3. READ ME?I think he should know his address also...because it is good to learn for babies.like my mom used to get paper and pencil and she would write my name, last name, home address, etc.that helps excercise the mind of the lil one.

  4. Why in the world does a 2 year old have a therapist? If knowing his address, phone #, etc seems a bit much to you....so does having a therapist. Poor thing.

Definitely not a requirement for school/kindergarten anywhere near where I live. Interesting.

  5. only if he's precocious.  let him develop at his pace.  keep the info posted on the inside of your front door for reference at his level.

  6. If he can talk and be understood, a 2 year old should be able to recite his home address, with city and state and his phone number; as well as his mom and dads first and last names.

  7. I would teach it as soon as possible, but I have a two year old and he does NOT know any of those things, lol. I don't think he even knows that you dial numbers to talk on the phone, and I definitely don't think he knows that I go by any other name that mommy.

I would suggest getting one of those gerber safety id kits. You can always get a card with those things on it and laminate it and stick it in his pocket when you leave home. You can get a typed slip laminated at any store or use contact paper and laminate it yourself.

  8. Yes, he needs to know all important contact info. He has the capability at that age to know these things. Just spend some time with him and make up a song or a rhyme to help him remember.

  9. Police officer: Hello there, little boy, are you lost?

    Kid: Yes.

Police Officer: What's your mommy's name?

    Kid: I don't know.

Police officer: What is your phone number?

    Kid: I don't know?

Aaaand he doesn't know his address, either. Congrats, you turned your back for one second, he's gone, and the cops have no way of returning him. Betcha wish he knew that info now.

  10. I have a question, why is a 2 year old seeing a therapist???

  11. when i was 2 or 3 i learned my address and phone number so yea i think its important.

  12. Your kid is smart, but why is he seeing a therapist? Is ok? I think he should know.

  13. First off, you need to clarify what type of therapist...My son has a speech and physical therapist, but he has caught up with his curve, as far as I am concerned. (He spent 10 days in the hospital with pneumonia at 2 months old, and his learning curve was slowed due to it lowering his blood O2 levels down to 25 percent)

Secondly, I think it is fantastic that your little guy knows all this, and as soon as he is able to memorize the phone number the better....

Notwithstanding child abductions, IF a child is lost, he is able to help himself get help.

The more that a child knows the BETTER!
