my niece only takes a bath every other night or longer then that...but shouldn't she take a bath every night....the only reason she doesn't take a bath every night is because her parents are too lazy and don't have a routine with her..........she goes to bed without brushing her teeth, her hair, without a bath.....that's not right....right?

  1. It is not necessary to bathe every day when a child is this young. As a teenager, when hormones kick in and body odors develop it is important to bathe more often to remove bacteria. But at this age, so long as your niece is washing her hands and face and she isn't visibly dirty from playing, etc a bath every other day is fine.

However, it is very important to develop a routine and to brush teeth every day! Her teeth and gums can become damaged from poor hygiene. Also her hair should be groomed every day to prevent tangles.

  2. Yes she needs a routine every night. She doesn't need to wash her hair every night, every other night would be ok, but she needs to brush her teeth and take a bath every night.

  3. My 5 year old gets his bath every night...hes very clean however  he doesnt like brushing his teeth. He usually wont go to bed unless he gets his bath or shower. I personally think she should be bathed everynight. Kids get very dirty throughout the day and little girls dont usually wipe good when they pee so they need to be washed.

  4. first off, for hygenie reasons, it really isn't necessary for a 5 year old to take a bath every single night.  it is more of establishing a routine.  many people do not give children baths each and every night.  there is nothing horribly wrong with it.  kids get sticky and dirty.  this is not a horrible form of neglect.

i would say, mind your own business and if your neice isn't being beaten, starved, or anything serious, butt out.  it is really annoying to have friends/relatives who are competive moms who think they know how to do everything better than you!

p.s. if it really bothers you, when your niece is spending time with you, she can do things the way you do it in your house.

  5. i agree you need routine big time and i don't think she should be going to bed dirty, do they change the sheets?? But i don't think a child need a bath every night, yes if they are dirty, but she should be making sure she washes her hands and face and brush her teeth every day and also when she gets dirty, and after the toliet . this women is moulding this childs future and she is encouaging her to be a slop.

  6. well it's not necessesary every night unless she is dirty and has been outside. I would think most kids that age need a bath every night. I have 4 boys and my older three take a shower every night but sometimes my youngest will skip a night. He has dry skin and it's actually not good for him to have one every night if we can help it.

However that coupled with the other things you mentioned such as not brushing teeth and such are not good. All you can really do is say something and hope they listen. *shrug* learn from their mistakes.

  7. They should take a bath everyday...But maybe not wash her hair everyday! My girls wash their hair every other day but still jump in the shower, and brush their teeth.

  8. I give my 4 1/2 year old a bath every night, but I only use soap and shampoo 2-3 times a week unless she has done something to get extra dirty.  Otherwise I just let her soak in the tub and play in the water as part of our bedtime routine.  She should be brushing her teeth every night, preferably twice a day and I think she should have her hair combed every day.  She is in school now, right?  They shouldn't send her to school stinky and unkempt.

  9. If the 5 year old is home all day and not getting dirty and washing hands and face with soap and water and brushing their teeth every night then that is fine, but most kids are getting sweaty and dirty and are around other children and in this case it is important to take a bath every night and brush the teeth and hair to help cut down on illnesses, germs, and allergies.

  10. Most 5 year olds don't need to bathe every night although she should be brushing her teeth every night.  Bathing often is not good for the skin anyway.  I have a daughter who is 10 and she doesn't bathe every night and never did.
