Should a 9 year old girl be a flower girl or junior bridesmaid?

It seems a young for a JRBM, but she is already starting puberty (breast buds, anyway), so I don't know if she should be a FG. What do you think?

  1. I'm a bridal consultant, and we come up with this issue all the time.  We tend to go not by the girl's age, but rather how tall/developed she is.  There are 9 year old girls who still look very much like little girls, and then there are 9 year old girls who are beginning to develop.  It sounds like your girl is falling into the latter category, so it's probably going to be harder to fit her into a traditional "flower girl" dress, and you'd probably be better off getting her a junior bridesmaid dress.  But, you can also have her in the jrbm dress, playing the role of flower girl.  Remember, it's YOUR wedding, and you need to make it memorable for you, and have the people YOU want participating in it.  I'd also ask the girl which she would rather do, drop rose petals as she walks down or simply carry a small bouquet of flowers.

    Good luck!

  2. junior bridesmaid

  3. I read once that girls 8 and under should be flower girls and girls 9 and up be junior bridesmaids. It depends on your family. I'd ask her mom what she thought. Ask your mom too, I've learned my mom can be such a big help when trying to make tiny, yet, important decisions. She'd probably be honored with either position. I'd base it off of her maturity, her importance to you or your fiancé, and if you have another girl to use as a FG.

    Good Luck and Congratulations

  4. I think 9 is too old to be a flower girl. Have her be a JRBM

  5. It's the perfect age for a flower girl.

  6. Most flower girls are young, under 6yrs. old. I'd have her be he j.b.m.

  7. Junior BM. By 9, she's really too old to be a flower girl, and might get her feelings hurt if you ask her to do that job - she'll feel babied. If it makes you feel better, call her your "handmaiden" or something.

  8. My flowergirl will be 8 by the wedding.  I think she'd be fine in either position.  Although my flowergirl is small for her age.  If she was large for her age I wouldn't have her do it.

Anyways whatever you want, but I'd lean more towards junior brides maid.

  9. I say 8 and under for the flower girl.  She should probably be a junior bridesmaid.

  10. I heard 8 is the cut off for flower girl, and some people say even that is too old. At any rate, 9 would definitely be a junior bridesmaid.

  11. I mean I think if you are going just by age - she more qualifies as a junior bridesmaid...

but if you don't think you want her as that big of a part in your wedding - I'm sure nobody would think she'd be out of place as a flower girl.
