Should a Muslim become a spy? Or is it haram?

What if you're trying to root out terrorist behaviour? In effect, you're not 'spying' but rather, helping to erradicate terror.

MI6 had a BBC radio broadcast saying they want to recruit British Muslim spies to help root out extremism from the British Muslim community in England. These spies are spying to help better the community

What does the Qur an and sunnah say? And what do you think?

I agree with you that extremists who kill innocent people, can think it is Islam.  Therefore there would be no problem to be a spy to root out the terrorists from Islam, since they are not really followers of Islam.  It is enlightening to know you would like to seperate these terrorists from Islam, and I believe that doing so if doing justice to Islam.  Terorrists falsely show what Islam is about and destroy the peace that Islam brings.  These terrorists slay the name and reputation of all the peaceful Muslim people, and Islam itself.

who is to define  terrorism or judge who's the terrorists are .

for most of the Americans , Muslims are terrorists , although they are the ones that are doing all the killing and destroying in Iraq , Afghanistan and Palestine , you can include other countries as well.

the same is for UK , when it occupied lots of the world's countries specially in Asia and Africa .

France , Holland and  Italy did as well.

so it's not really about national security for them , it's all about being in control and steeling whatever they can from these countries .

in fact they are the terrorists and the only Pirates that are trying to conquer the world.

You should not spy on fellow Muslims. To get ride of terrorism, you must educate the young people. Also to note, that not all Muslims are terrorist, some in those Muslims are fighting for their rights and their rights to have their home land back from occupation and invaders.

i think being a spy against Islam enemies is a Jihad, but it is Haram to be hired by the enemies against Muslims,,

how sure are you about what's really happening?  it's pretty hard for any of us to really know and trust what's happening behind the scenes.  I wouldn't trust anyone willing to kill innocents, whether it be in london or in iraq.

Muslim's occupation of their hearts should be Hazure Haq: to be aware of the Presence of ALLAH(SWT) at all times!

Western's law eforcing agencies solution is not with the recruitment of a Muslim spy!

Western criminal law system have utilized this concept before and the facts alone speak of failure!

Yes a Muslim may become a spy , it is not haram , from Sunnah we see many of Sahabah were appointed as spy , the most evident is the case of Hzrat Abbas , who stayed in Mecca after Hijra and he kept Prophet(PBUH) and Muslims informed of any war plans of Mushrekeen e Mecca.
