  1. Its pretty common for employers to require a drug test of prospective employees.

However, I've never heard of a company making the potential employee pay for the drug test.  That's a little unusual.

I'd be suspicious if they required your husband to pay.  If they expect the employee to pick up the tab for something like that, who knows how else that company will try to stiff the employees?

P.S.  I work for a hospital that also has an occupational medical clinic...many employers in our area have accounts set up with us to automatically handle the drug tests of their potential new employees.  So, I can definitely vouch for the fact that many (if not most) employers pick up the tab for that sort of thing.

  2. If he does not want to pay for the drug testing....then he will not have the drug test and he will not get the job.

If he wants the job...suck it up and pay for the test. Otherwise, keep looking.

It does not matter what a company "should" or "should not" do.... it's not going to change your situation. The company is not required to pay for the drug test and chose not to.

So, how bad does he want the job?

  3. Normally they pay for it.

  4. if they require it they should pay for it  find out about your states labor laws

  5. From my experience, anything that is REQUIRED, the company requiring it must pay for it.

  6. almost all companies require this now, and I can relate to why, as long as a prospect employee dont have to pay, they dont care if they can pass or not, odds are if they have to pay, as long as there is a doubt, they wont test. Its economics at work. Now once he's past that one, he wont have to pay for the randoms they may issue, but its common to have to pay for the first one yourself.
